Train2Game News: Pokemon bank available in Europe

Pokemon BankThe Pokemon Bank app is finally available in Europe, following a number of delays. Originally scheduled to launch in the US and European eShop on December 27, the app was delayed in response to server troubles and Nintendo Network outages over the holiday season.

The app will be available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop later today and will charge users an annual fee of £4.49 / $5.00 to store their Pokemon online.

A player’s Pokemon Bank account contains 100 boxes, each with 30 Pokemon capacity, allowing for a total of 3000 Pokemon to be stored. Players can deposit and withdraw Pokemon from their copy of Pokemon X & Y.

The service will also enable players to transfer their previously collected Pokemon from Pokemon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 into their Pokemon Bank using another 3DS app called Pokemon Transfer.

“Pokemon Box is a paid service that will allow players to have secure and convenient access”, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said during a Pokemon Direct broadcast last year.

Train2Game News: Special Gift with Pokémon Bank

Celebi

Today, The Pokémon Company International announced a special gift for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players that download and use Pokémon Bank, the new Nintendo 3DS downloadable software service.

When a player downloads Pokémon Bank anytime between December 27, 2013, and September 30, 2014, they will receive the Mythical Time Travel Pokémon Celebi. This special Celebi comes with the move Hold Back, a restrained attack that cannot be learned through normal gameplay, which always leaves the target with at least 1 HP. This allows players to weaken a target with certainty and is very useful in capturing Pokémon. This particular Celebi also knows the moves Recover, Heal Bell, and Safeguard.

Players will need to use the Pokémon Link feature in their  Pokémon X or  Pokémon Y game to receive Celebi. After you have received your Celebi gift within Pokémon Bank, select Pokémon Link, and Celebi will be sent to your PC Box in your Pokémon X or Pokémon Y game.

Train2Game News: Nintendo legend Hiroshi Yamauchi passes away

Hiroshi YamauchiIt’s with a heavy heart I report the death of Nintendo visionary Hiroshi Yamauchi at the age of eighty five.

Mr Yamauchi ran the firm for 53 years, and was its second-largest shareholder at the time of his death. In that time, he took what was a small-time collectable trading card company and built it into one of the most recognisable and successful video games brands today.

Mr Yamauchi took over at Nintendo after his grandfather suffered a stroke. He utilised the work of legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto, who had made Donkey Kong, as a way of breaking into the US arcade game market. Mr Miyamoto’s later work was pivotal in the success of Nintendo’s home entertainment systems, titles such as Super Mario, Legend of Zelda and Starfox became commercial smashes and household names.

Mr Yamauchi, one of Japan’s richest men, also used to own the Seattle Mariners major league baseball club before selling it in 2004 to Nintendo’s US-based operation.

The company confirmed the news in an emailed statement. A spokesman said the firm was in mourning over the loss of the former Nintendo president Mr Hiroshi Yamauchi, who sadly passed away this morning. He died of pneumonia at a hospital in central Japan and a funeral will take place on Sunday.

Mr Yamauchi is responsible for shaping the games industry in to what it is today and we thank him for all he did.

Train2Game News: Nintendo 2DS

Nintendo 2DSEarlier this week Nintendo announced a new addition to it’s hand held family. The Nintendo 2DS, the child friendly alternative to the popular 3DS.

The new Nintendo 2DS system gives you all the features of the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL, minus 3D viewing and the price makes the world of Nintendo games even more accessible. The 2DS is compatible with all Nintendo 3DS and most Nintendo DS games; has wireless connectivity for multiplayer and co-op play and has access to the Nintendo eShop, with digital games, free demos, and special offers.

The 2DS has a similar design to the 3DS with the dual screens but it has no hinges. This is to help the console last in the hands of over excited children who may have trouble with the hinges of the 3DS.

It will be available in “White + Red” or “Blue + Black” from 12th October, the same day Pokémon X and Pokémon Y comes out. Nintendo of Europe doesn’t set the price of hardware in the UK, but GAME has set its price as £109.99.

Nintendo of America chief Reggie Fils-Aime said “Nintendo has one of the strongest and most diverse video game lineups in our history,

“Today we’re making those unique Nintendo experiences more accessible and affordable. However you play and whatever you play, Nintendo has you covered.”
