Train2Game News Super Mario jumping back to the big screen

Everybody’s favourite red hat wearing plumber (and probably his less popular green hat wearing brother) are coming back to the big screen.

Nintendo have officially announced a partnership with animated movie producer Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind big hits such as the Minions franchise.

The film will be co-produced by Nintendo representative director Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri.

Universal Pictures and Nintendo are co-financing the project, and Universal Pictures will handle the film’s theatrical distribution worldwide.

This has all the makings of a huge hit.

However this isn’t the first time the Mario brothers have hit the big screen but the less said about that the better.

We will bring you more news on the movie when we know more.

Train2Game News Robot Cache changing the game selling game

Robot Cache is the first decentralized PC video game distribution platform that benefits publishers, developers and gamers.

Utilizing blockchain technology, Robot Cache will reduce the fees publishers and developers pay by 80% and allow gamers to resell their digital PC video games. In addition, gamers can opt in to mine digital assets (IRON) that can be applied towards the purchase of games.

“Just a handful of companies dominate the multi-billion-dollar digital download PC video games market. Robot Cache plans to revolutionize the industry by launching the first-ever workable decentralized video game marketplace that benefits both the creators of video games and gamers. All of this is accomplished by expertly leveraging the power, flexibility, safety, and transparency of blockchain technology,” said Lee Jacobson, CEO, Robot Cache.

Robot Cache is a victory for digital PC gamers and the publishers who create games. The Robot Cache platform is created by industry veterans who understand the dynamics of what is needed to be successful and have the relationships necessary to bring the right partners to the table. Best of all, Robot Cache will be a full featured and live platform when gamers first come to it. Robot Cache expects to offer the latest and greatest video games on the Robot Cache platform for gamers’ immediate enjoyment.

DEVELOPERS AND PUBLISHERS BENEFIT

Developers and publishers benefit from the lowest transaction fees of any digital PC video game distribution platform. Everyone from the smallest indie team to the biggest publishers, will retain up to 95% of the sales proceeds, which is 25% higher than the current industry standard. In addition, Robot Cache’s revolutionary digital resale market allows developers and publishers to set resale pricing and earn 70% of the resale proceeds.

Additionally, game makers will be able to control the parameters of resales, receive payment in minutes (not months), maintain secure ownership rights (due to decentralized blockchain management), and have a full suite of sales and marketing tools at their disposal.

“Earning any money on the video game resale market is unheard of for game publishers, and earning up to 70%, which is equivalent to the best margins publishers and developers currently receive on today’s most popular digital distributions platforms is crazy. Allowing creators to keep 95% of new game sales, and 70% on game resales, provides developers, like us at inXile, with a strong financial stream. This gives us more resources to create new content and new IPs for fans,” said Brian Fargo, CEO of inXile Entertainment and Founder of Robot Cache.

GAMERS BENEFIT

Gamers greatly benefit from Robot Cache’s unique distribution approach. Previously, gamers could only resell physical retail copies of a video game, but now they can resell digital games purchased on the Robot Cache platform using the blockchain and retain 25% of the proceeds from the resale. Selling their digital games earn them digital tokens, named IRON, Robot Cache’s cryptocurrency, which they can use toward the purchase of another game on the Robot Cache platform.

In addition, gamers can opt-in within the Robot Cache client to mine IRON which they can then use to buy games on the platform. Robot Cache has also created an IRON reward program to incentivize gamers to use the platform. When various individual or community milestones are reached, Robot Cache will reward additional IRON to the gamers using the platform.

TOKEN GENERATION EVENT

Robot Cache will be creating IRON based on the ERC-20 standard. Robot Cache will sell and issue Simple Agreements for Future Tokens (SAFTs), which will convert into IRON upon launch of the platform which will take place in Q2, 2018. SAFTs are expected to begin being offered in an Institutional Pre-sale on January 17, 2018, and SAFTs are expected to begin being offered in an Accredited Public Pre-sale on February 15, 2018.

Robot Cache will look to raise a minimum of $15M USD in a token generation event to be used to obtain exclusive content, develop partnerships and the digital PC video game distribution platform, and for sales, marketing, general, administrative, legal, and accounting purposes.

The solicitation, offer, and sale of SAFTs will be conducted in a manner that is compliant with applicable securities laws and regulations, including Rule 506© of Regulation D. Only verified accredited investors will be eligible to purchase SAFTs.

Train2Game GameSessions supporting charities

GameSessions, the company behind many game giveaways and trials, today announces a new programme to support charities.

Over the next few months, they will be giving away games to raise awareness and donations for some selected charitable causes that have touched the lives of their staff.

The unique reach and engagement that the GameSessions Giveaways generates, with millions of minutes played, is a great opportunity to support the charities concerned. The team have picked Kidney Research, Cancer Research, Child’s Play and ME Research as these have each impacted their lives significantly.

GameSessions will offer Slack Games’ Mechanic Escape to download and play for free from today in support of the ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis also known as CFS) Association. The company is donating 100% of their share of any (optional) Steam key sales to the ME Association and users will also have the option to donate directly to the charity within the game.

Mechanic Escape combines its rhythm and fast pace into a fun but challenging platformer. In order to find his lost friends, the hero, Mech, doesn’t hesitate to risk life and circuits to pass throughout high-voltage areas or dodge the most deadly machines. A hardcore game with over 80 levels, Mechanic Escape can challenge even the most veteran player but is an accessible universe to all gamers.

Ed French, CEO commented:

“Last month, we launched our new free games service; GameSessions Giveaways with one of our first brand partners, AMD. It was an overwhelming success and succeeded in its goal of helping spread the word of one of our partners. GameSessions Giveaways offers us a platform to speak directly to gamers and we’ve decided to also use that exposure to highlight and support the work of charities that work on issues close to our hearts. Over the next few months we’re planning to give away a number of games to raise awareness and money for these charities.

We’re going to provide games in support of: Kidney Research, Cancer Research, Children’s Hospitals and ME Research.

The games will cost end users nothing, but we do ask that they watch a very short video (less than 2 minutes) about the charity before they play.

We will donate our share of the revenue from any (optional) sales of Steam keys for each game to the charity concerned, and we will provide a link in game to donate directly if you can.

The first giveaway we’re doing for charity is a game called Mechanic Escape, so it seems appropriate to use it to raise awareness of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (so ME4ME!). We picked this cause as the daughter of one of our staff currently suffers from the condition, and so many people are unaware of how difficult life is for sufferers. Despite all the detailed research into the immune, nervous and digestive abnormalities, many people still label it “yuppy flu” and suggest patients with long-term painful and debilitating conditions are not really unwell.

We know that most gamers will be willing to spend 90 seconds learning about the condition to get a free game to add to their collection. Every extra person who has some understanding of this condition is a benefit to the sufferers.”

Helen Hyland, Fundraising Manager for the ME Association, said:

“We’re delighted to work with Gamesessions on something which breaks new ground for us as a charity.

“Many of the gamers who download Mechanic Escape make a choice to stay in and play it. For those with ME, staying in isn’t a choice – it’s the reality of their daily lives.

“For us, this is a fresh way of reaching people, often the under 25s. We hope they have fun – dodge the deadly machines and the devious bosses – and learn a little about this devastating illness at the same time.”

Train2Game News The 100 Best Video Games (that never existed)

Solaris is delighted to announce it will publish The 100 Best Video Games (that never existed), an outrageous – and, frankly, hilarious – new title from the redoubtable Nate ‘Frog Croakley’ Crowley, this September.
Solaris signed the book following the ever-surprising Crowley’s exploits on Twitter. After rashly tweeting he would dream up an imaginary computer game for every favourite said tweet received, Crowley found himself engaged in an epic quest to conjure up hundreds of entirely fictional titles.

The results, ranging from ‘chilling’ MMO Hawks Versus Voles Online to sidescreen scroller / cockney beat-‘em-up BeastEnders and beyond, were by degrees hilarious, touching, grotesque, and – crucially – entirely made up.

The tweets soon went viral, garnering coverage on prominent sites including Buzzfeed and Rock Paper Shotgun, at which point the author evolved the concept to include fan donations to the Zoological Society of London (ZSL).

Solaris – the publishing arm of video games developer Rebellion – saw the potential for a print collection of the best of the tweets featuring artwork from in-house video games artists, and lo, a book was born.

Since the Twitter project the book is based on was run as a fundraiser for amphibian conservation, Crowley will continue to honour frogs and their other moist pals by donating 15% of sale proceeds to ZSL. The money will go towards habitat conservation and breeding programmes for critically endangered amphibians.

Solaris Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Oliver commented:

“Nate Crowley is a man with a boundless imagination. Add to that a sense of humour that is cuttingly satirical, while not being shy of the odd Viz-esque bit of smut and silliness, and what you have is one of the funniest and weirdest writers around: an author for our post-truth world, who takes those post-truths and turns them into things of wonder.”

Nate Crowley commented:

“Having done some initial work with the art team at Rebellion, I’m staggered by their level of talent and experience – I think they are really going to make this project shine. Being able to call on a small army of professional artists to draw my silliest ideas is a power I should never have been allowed to wield, but I will endeavour to use it wisely. I’m very grateful to all the folk who donated to ZSL in support of the original twitter project, and am happy to say a split of my proceeds will go directly to amphibian conservation. Let the games begin!”

“If these games did not exist, it would be necessary to invent them” – Voltaire

The 100 Best Video Games (that never existed) is the world’s first post-truth gaming book.

From 1980s hits like Star Trek: Bee on the Bridge, right through to modern classics like 90s Goth Soccer and BinCrab Destiny, this high-end retrospective takes the reader on a lavish tour of the most memorable and groundbreaking games never to have been made.

Painstakingly illustrated by a team of genuine industry artists, and written by professional over-imaginer Nate Crowley, this book doesn’t just throw out silly ideas – it expands on them in relentless and excruciating detail.

As well as the 100 games featured, articles throughout the book examine an entire fictional history of games, with hundreds more existentially challenged titles referenced.

If you end up with a lingering temptation to Google Desert Git 2 or Gorilla Sky Justice to check it’s not real, this book has done its job…

Train2Game News Life is Strange Before the Storm Episode 1

SQUARE ENIX®, publisher of award-winning and best-selling videogame franchises such as FINAL FANTASY® and TOMB RAIDER®, today released an emotive new video that features real people, with real, genuine stories of friendship and love to celebrate the launch of LIFE IS STRANGE™: BEFORE THE STORM, out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.

The three-minute video, entitled “An Open Letter”, was been created to reflect the strong themes of friendship, love and support in the game.

In LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM, Chloe and Rachel develop a special bond over the time they spend together. Almost everyone can name that one person who defined a very special time of their life. In some cases, these relationships can span a few short months and in other cases, decades. To celebrate the release of Episode One, we invited a small group of real people to write an open letter to that special person in their own life…

Square Enix Vice President for Brand Marketing Jon Brooke said: “I wanted to capture the emotion and spirit of Life is Strange in a way that you don’t usually see in video game advertising. As a game, it braves to be different, harnessing emotions rarely seen in video games and I wanted the advertising to match this. I am really pleased with how it turned out. It’s designed to remind us that life is all about our relationships and a strong friendship can change everything. I hope everyone can relate to that.”

Creative Agency, Ralph, spent many weeks reaching out to pairs of best friends, asking for stories and insights into how their friendship had lasted through even the toughest of times.

““We took a risk with this strategy and we wouldn’t have achieved the emotion within the video had we not chosen some extraordinary people willing to open their hearts on camera,” admitted Ralph’s Creative Director Gregor Stevenson. “The raw intensity of their reactions as they read their best friends’ innermost thoughts is what we wanted to capture from the start. And that’s what we got. Our goal was to portray each friendship in an engaging and empathetic way, whilst reflecting the authenticity and uniqueness of the characters in the game.”

LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is the next game in Square Enix’s award-winning, multi-million copy selling, episodic franchise. Set in Arcadia Bay, three years before the events of the first game in the series. Players will take on the role of a rebellious 16 year-old Chloe Price who forms an unlikely friendship with Rachel Amber; a beautiful and popular girl destined for success. When Rachel’s world is turned upside down by a family secret, it takes this new-found alliance to give each other the strength to overcome their demons.

The new video entitled “An Open Letter” can be found here.

Released last week, the Gamescom Launch Trailer can be found here.
