Singapore tech company Refract is excited to announce that its AXISKickstarter campaign has already surpassed its crowdfunding goal with days to go.
AXIS (Active XR Interface System) is a full-body motion-tracking technology that is designed to offer premium features, accuracy and usability at an accessible price.
Designed with active gaming in mind, the game controller gives players complete freedom of movement and incredible levels of immersion as they use their bodies to control the on-screen action. A series of wearable sensors wirelessly track gamers’ full-body movements in real-time, all without the need for large and complex external base stations.
The Kickstarter campaign will run until October 2nd, so now is the last chance for consumers to secure huge discounts on the final retail price before it enters full production in 2022.
The Refract team’s vision was to create a low-latency and affordable full-body controller to deliver an immersive motion gaming experience. The result is a series of sensors with a wireless hub that delivers on their goals and more. With just nine sensors and an on-body hub for inside-out positional tracking, the setup is designed to be simple for anyone to use, especially in smaller spaces.
Besides being compatible out-of-the-box with OpenVR, OpenXR and SteamVR, AXIS also works with popular VR systems like Oculus, making it an excellent add-on for users who want to enhance their current setup.
AXIS has three setups to meet different needs: Standard, VR, and Creator.
These are tailored for gamers, VR experiences, and motion capture animators, respectively.
Each setup uses the same basic technology, and thanks to the ability to rapidly swap and assign sensors, it is easy to add or remove them to alter the configuration quickly. As well as making the system easily scalable, this versatility also makes it incredibly affordable compared to other popular trackers.
The sensors and hub also have a stylish, water-resistant design for users who work up a sweat while playing.
Founded by tech and games industry veterans from Unity, EA, and Ubisoft, Refract numbers over 40 employees and has seen consistent growth since 2018. In the first step towards full-body motion control, Refract entered into a pioneering partnership with World Taekwondo to develop its virtual sports program.
Connect wirelessly and without need for external base stations
Real-time low-latency full-body tracking for gaming and more
Compatible with OpenVR and SteamVR applications
Interchangeable and detachable straps and sensors
Real-time, low-latency for a variety of uses
By reaching its Kickstarter goal of $100,000, Refract can ensure that the AXIS hardware can enter mass production on schedule.
Gamers can still back the standard setup of nine sensors and hub plus a copy of Freestriker for $499 USD and save over 35% on the RRP when it is released in 2022.
For more information, or to back the project, head over to the Kickstarter page.

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo have revealed more details for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Pokémon Shining Pearl, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, including all-new trailers.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl are faithful remakes of the Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version games, bringing Trainers back to the Sinnoh region, where they will meet Professor Rowan, battle against Team Galactic, and explore the Grand Underground. For those setting out through Sinnoh for the first time, plenty of new encounters and surprises await.
The all-purpose Pokétch The Pokétch is a handy gadget players receive on their in-game journey that’s loaded up with various apps. This all-purpose tool has apps for all sorts of situations, such as the Dowsing Machine app, which can be used to locate hidden items. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, the Pokétch also allows players to call on wild Pokémon to help them out by using hidden moves like Cut to chop down obstructive trees or Rock Climb to scale steep cliffs.
Have fun with Pokémon in Amity Square Amity Square in Hearthome City is a relaxing place where Trainers can spend time with their Pokémon. They’ll be able to walk with up to six of their Pokémon at a time, so long as they are among the list of Pokémon permitted in the park. While inside Amity Square, players can also adjust the camera angle and zoom level to take commemorative photos and videos with their Pokémon. Photos can be taken by pressing the Nintendo Switch system’s Capture Button, while short videos can be recorded by pressing and holding it.
Make some Poffins! Poffins are snacks that can raise Pokémon’s conditions, such as Coolness or Cuteness. By raising these conditions, players can get higher scores during the Visual Evaluation of Super Contest Shows. In Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, it was only possible to make Poffins in the Poffin House, but now players can make them in Amity Square as well.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl will be released on November 19, 2021. Both games are currently available for preorder, with special early purchase bonuses available.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus Pokémon Legends: Arceus brings players to the vast Hisui region. This is the Sinnoh region as it existed in the past, long before the familiar towns and cityscapes of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl were established. Rich in nature and with Mount Coronet towering at its heart, this is a Sinnoh unlike anything players have experienced before, and they’ll embark on a journey to complete the region’s first Pokédex.
Your Arc Phone will be your guide Early on in the adventure, players will get a device called the Arc Phone. Its distinctive appearance might lead one to suspect it has some connection to the Mythical Pokémon Arceus. This device seems to contain some sort of strange power, and it will apparently help guide players on their journey.
Special Pokémon with mysterious power During their expeditions, players may run into Pokémon that are larger than normal and have glowing red eyes. These are known as alpha Pokémon. They’re stronger than their regular counterparts, and they’ll be quite aggressive in chasing and attacking players that stray too close.
There are also special Pokémon in the Hisui region that have received some kind of mysterious blessing. Some of these Pokémon are particularly powerful and have come to be known as nobles, while others are said to willingly assist the people of the region. Each one of these Pokémon seems to hold power not held by regular Pokémon. People known as wardens are tasked with looking after these Pokémon by performing duties such as making sure the nobles’ territories remain unviolated or providing offerings of food and water.
These Pokémon nobles are revered by the people of the region, but some strange phenomenon is now causing them to suddenly fly into a frenzy. The cause of these incidents is still shrouded in mystery. Once frenzied, these Pokémon are incredibly difficult to rein in, which forces the people of Hisui to turn to the Galaxy Expedition Team for help. As part of the Survey Corps, you will be called upon to quell the frenzies of the nobles.
Special minerals found in the Hisui region cause Scyther to evolve into this Pokémon. Parts of its body have hardened into stone. The stone parts often get chipped during fierce battles, and Kleavor that have survived many battles will display larger chipping across their bodies. It is said that the people of Hisui once used pieces of stone that had fallen from Kleavor to craft tools.
Race across sprawling untamed landscapes while riding Pokémon During their adventures, players will receive a Celestica Flute. This is a mysterious instrument that has been passed down through generations of Hisui’s people. Play the flute anywhere to summon special Pokémon that will let you ride them. Riding these Pokémon will allow players to move faster on land or cross bodies of water or even soar through the skies.
Wyrdeer: Wyrdeer has powerful, sturdy legs, and riding upon it will allow players to gallop across the land at great speed and jump to leap over obstacles.
Basculegion: Basculegion can carry players on its back, allowing for travel across bodies of water. Basculegion is also able to launch itself from the water’s surface, letting players leap effortlessly over obstacles in their way.
Hisuian Braviary: Hisuian Braviary will let players soar through the skies. From up in the air, players will also be able to get a good look at what kinds of Pokémon live down below and what kinds of items might be found.
Check out the facilities of your home base, Jubilife Village Players can prepare for their survey work at Jubilife Village, and there are also facilities that can help make the adventure even more fun.
The clothier and hairdresser: Players can mix up outfits and hairstyles at the clothier and the hairdresser to choose their look.
The photography studio: Players can take pictures alongside their Pokémon at the photography studio.
The general store and craftworks: If players used up their items on a previous excursion, they can replenish their supplies at the general store. They can also use in-game currency to buy new crafting recipes and materials from the craftworks.
The pastures: The pastures are where players can leave Pokémon that have been caught. Many Pokémon will need to be caught to complete the Pokédex, but only six Pokémon can be taken along in a party. Players will want to choose the right Pokémon for each mission before heading out on surveys. At any of the various base camps, players can change which Pokémon they have in the party or send Pokémon to the pastures.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be released on Friday, January 28, 2022. It is currently available for preorder.

Sir Clive Sinclair unfortunately passed away on Thursday at home in London after a long illness, his family said.
He was 81.
The British entrepreneur is perhaps best known for launching the ZX range of cheap microcomputers, which helped bring computing, games, and programming into UK homes in the 1980s, at least.
This included the ZX80, said to be the UK’s first mass-market home computer for under £100, the ZX81, and the trusty ZX Spectrum. And then there was the Sinclair QL, which was Sir Clive’s big shot at business.
A whole generation grew up in Britain mastering coding on these kinds of systems in their bedrooms, and went on to build games and applications we use today.
Before all that, Sir Clive founded Sinclair Radionics, which produced amplifiers, calculators, and watches, and was a forerunner to his Spectrum-making Sinclair Research. The tech pioneer, who eventually sold his computing biz to Amstrad, was knighted during his computing heyday, in 1983. Sir Clive also took a run at electric vehicles with the C5, and I think we all know how that worked out.
“He was a rather amazing person,” his daughter, Belinda Sinclair, 57, told The Guardian this evening. “Of course, he was so clever and he was always interested in everything. My daughter and her husband are engineers so he’d be chatting engineering with them.”
Dominik Diamond, who in the 1990s presented video games program GamesMaster on Brit telly, was among those who paid tribute to Sir Clive today. “Wouldn’t have had a career without this guy,” said Diamond.
“All your UK video game companies today were built on the shoulders of giants who made games for the ZX Spectrum. You cannot exaggerate Sir Clive Sinclair’s influence on the world.”
Sir Clive is survived by Belinda; his sons, Crispin and Bartholomew, aged 55 and 52 respectively; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The 25th anniversary celebration kicked off with Post Malone’s “Only Wanna Be with You (Pokémon 25 Version)” surprise cover of the Hootie and the Blowfish smash ’90s hit, performed during Pokémon’s P25 Music virtual concert in February 2021. Pop icon Katy Perry unveiled her anthemic, original, lead single for the album, “Electric,” in May. New songs by Vince Staples (“Got ’Em”), Cyn (“Wonderful”), and Mabel (“Take It Home”)—collected on The Red EP—followed in August, along with Louane’s “Game Girl.” Individuals who preorder the digital album will instantly receive each of these six songs. The compilation will also feature new tracks by J Balvin, Lil Yachty, Jax Jones with Sinead Harnett, Yaffle (Japanese artist/producer based in Tokyo), and Tierra Whack, plus ZHU’s alternate versions of the songs of The Red EP, which were featured on The Blue EP, released last month.
Speaking about working with Pokémon and being one of the final artists to announce a track on this anticipated album, Lil Yachty says, “I’ve always been a huge Pokémon fan, and I jumped at the opportunity to be on the album. I love the record I did for it, called ‘Believing,’ and I hope it inspires my fans to chase their dreams.”
“P25 Music has been an incredible journey in which we’ve been able to collaborate with so many amazing musicians to help us celebrate 25 years of Pokémon,” said Colin Palmer, Vice President of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “As we count down to the launch of Pokémon 25: The Album and the culmination of this yearlong adventure, we’re looking forward to Lil Yachty, Tierra Whack, and Jax Jones joining the party and adding their own unique sounds and fresh takes on Pokémon-inspired songs to this celebratory compilation.”
Fans can keep up with the latest news for P25 Music and more celebrations across the franchise on Pokémon’s 25th anniversary website at Pokemon.com/25.
Pokémon and music fans are invited to join the conversation online with @Pokemon and #Pokemon25.
