Train2Game News Student Studios Secret Project

Appatier’s new top secret project is going well… don’t tell anyone!
Train2Game student studio Appatier is working on yet another paid contract. The team is creating a new mobile game, but they’re not allowed to talk about it.

A Train2Game success story, Appatier is now working on its second major project of 2016. The small and diverse studio staffed by a group of friends is working on a new title.  But the studio can’t give out the details as it has been sworn to secrecy. The project is under NDA but they can say, it’s a mobile game…

According to John Esslemont MD of Appatier the project is going really well. They are working hard, there’s a great Producer onboard who’s giving them excellent leadership and direction. The nameless Producer has kept an eye on the team, helping them to overcome many obstacles.

This is by far the largest project the team has undertaken and they have learnt a great deal. Appatier is working to deadlines and milestones in the project. Overcoming bugs has been a key obstacle as has tinkering with the original code as the design changes.

They did not think they would get the project, it’s a huge step up for them and they are now working with professionals at the top tier of games development. John says the project was easy to staff as he chose friends that have a similar ethic to him.

The team has done some ludicrous hours to deliver what the client wants but learnt a great deal along the way. For John he’s learnt to be prepared and earnt even more respect for Designers. His advice for others is to ‘’work smarter’’ and to make sure you are spending time on the right things.

John Esslemont, Managing Director, Appatier: ‘The project is going really well at the moment three days away from a deadline which I only just realised but we are on track apart from one little bug. There have certainly been times where I think “Ok we have gone and messed up now”. But it has always turned out to be really good in the end. We have Stephen our producer to thank for that, the guy is so down to earth and understands development which from my previous experience is a hard thing to come by.’

‘I have learned so much I feel like I have forgotten more. The one thing I have learnt is to design everything before a single line of code gets written. We went ahead and carried on development after we passed a milestone, when we delivered it was not what the client wanted, so crunch time it was, 16 hours days became the norm, all the way through to 36 hour days and nights to make sure we got what they wanted done and we got it done fast. They trusted us to get something done so we made sure we delivered on it.’

‘It is actually awesome working with a Producer! He knows about development so it’s really good as he understands the hurdles you go through and little things that crop up. Not only that but when he found out we were working stupid hours he told us to stop and get rest he doesn’t want us getting ill. Now I have never had this before so that too me by surprise. He is so relaxed about stuff, you know when he wants something done by talking to him, Also the guy is like a mind reader he can just tell if you are thinking something or if something is up does it with Edd all the time haha.’

‘This is by far the biggest project I have even done, Financially, Professionally, and everything else in-between. When we put in our pitch I truly didn’t think we would get it, I mean we have the skills and experience we were not fazed by anything. But to go from freelancing to working with top tier people in games is a huge level up for all of us.’

‘It was easy to choose who to work with. I have worked with Domm for about 3 years, I knew he didn’t like his job and wanted to offer him something better so with us being mates it was a no brainer. I worked with Edd over the last year and his work ethic and attention to detail is insane! Not only that but a UI Artist, Designer, Web Developer, and musician all in one, is a no brainer.’

‘We have hit a fair share of problems while working on the game, infact I’m busy fixing one now. Essentially we wrote a system that would do what we needed it too at the time, but as the design changes we need to go back and change it to accommodate for the new changes.’

‘As for design, well let’s just say I now know what a designer does and I’m not into that! I help a lot with these things but it is so time consuming and you really need to break the idea down to will it work or not, do we think it is good or not, if not why if yes why. It’s all theoretical of course but the amount of work that goes into it I never even knew. So yeah respect to all game designers!’

‘Recommends for others, well with design just send a lot more to client and see what is said, have more meetings about things. One thing that the producer did say to us which we are still using right now is “Work Smarter”. If we need to know something and no one is say online or your waiting for a reply just do what you think until they are available. Do not leave it and go work on something else finish your task as best you can until you really cannot do any more on it then move on. Or if you are starting to get code block or your mind is fried take a break and go chill for a bit. A fresh mind is always better than a foggy one.’

‘What’s next? Well we need to finish this current deadline so we can move onto our server side stuff and social integrations.’

Train2game Official Dan Bilzerian Game

image

We would like to present to you SAVE DAN – THE OFFICIAL DAN BILZERIAN GAME, inspired by Dan’s unique lifestyle.

Bon vivan, millionaire and poker player Dan Bilzerian has been attacked in the cyber world by sexy zombies! These villains want him as much as the long-legged beauties in real life, but unlike the cuddly girls Dan is surrounded with at all times, these creatures are bloodthirsty. Only you can help him out! Avoid and gun down bloodthirsty zombies! Choose from an array of destructive weaponry and put them to use in locations throughout America! When you play Save Dan, the unbelievably funny and original free-to-play game for iOS and Android developed by Novasoft, you can expect to hold your breath for action packed moments!

Dan himself was involved in the development of the game. He gave very valuable advice on various weapon characteristics, as well as guidance on zombie modeling and animations.

“Originally the concept started out as a shooting app with a nice variety of weapons shooting inanimate targets in a variety of environments.  I suggested making it more interesting by having a variety of zombie chicks chasing me to rip my clothes off and “abuse” me.  The player’s objective is simply to save my ass!  It kinda took off from there with some cool additional features.”, said Dan commenting the launching of the game.

Your mission is to gun down these zombies before they get Dan, who has to activate signal beacons so you both get a chance to carry out the objective, which is to escape the zombie madness and survive. Time is of the essence, so you better watch out! If you fail to save him, the undead will throw themselves at him and tear him to pieces!

Train2game News Pocket Gamer Awards 2016

image

Steel Media, publisher of Pocket Gamer, feels as sprightly as an Irish Setter at finally being able to reveal the winners of the seventh edition of the Pocket Gamer Awards.

A record-shattering number of votes by PG readers this year has determined the final standings, with the Square Enix Montreal-developed Lara Croft GO dominating by claiming the Android Game of the Year, Overall Game of the Year, and Best Developer awards.

Meanwhile, celebrated puzzler The Room Three secured iOS Game of the Year, with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Super Meat Boy grabbing the equivalent honors for 3DS and PS Vita, respectively.

And there was more handheld recognition in the Best Publisher category, with Nintendo claiming the award for an impressive third year in a row (and fourth time overall).

In addition to the above awards, which focused on games released during 2015, this year’s edition also featured the ‘Pocket Gamer Legends’ categories. Designed to coincide with Pocket Gamer’s 10-year anniversary in March, the three PG Legends awards celebrate the games, developers, and publishers that the PG team feels have most impressed from the past decade.

Some enthusiastic and very close voting eventually saw Supercell and Gameloft emerge as PG Legends Best Developer and Publisher, respectively, with readers evidently keen to reward the considerable contribution both companies have made to mobile gaming over the past few years.

When it came to the PG Legends Best Game, the fight proved even tighter. But once the votes were cast it was the critically acclaimed (and Apple Game of the Year 2013) Ridiculous Fishing from admired indie studio Vlambeer which reeled in the distinguished honour of being named the finest mobile gaming experience of the decade.

To further mark the special occasion, the PG Awards include for the first time runners-up positions in all categories. They, along with the deserved winners, can be viewed at http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/pgawards2016

Train2game News MobiStick

image

Designed by the brazilian indie developers from Vortex Game Studios, the mobiSTICK is a mobile app that transform your mobile device into a fully customised joystick.

The first concept is from 2011, with an idea of using any mobile devices not just as input device, but as a support device too, with information about characters, maps and more… Something like what we have today on Wii U.

The research started in 2013, where lots of tests were created to develop a very nice and comfortable virtual gamepad using all that the device has to offer, like touchscreen, camera and accelerometer.

After 3 years of research the mobiSTICK, a virtual and fully customisable joystick is available for your smart device, but not just that, it is a joystick where the player can modify the entire experience from the app as the user wants!

In some tests, a template was built where the player is able to play some platform games using just one hand, creating lots of possibilities to adapt the app to include people with some motor difficulty back to games!

The mobiSTICK Alpha can be downloaded on the official website and very soon will go out on an Indiegogo campaign. Everyone can support the project on Thunderclap for free.

Train2game News Mobile Fraud Prevention Suite

image

At the San Francisco Mobile Growth Summit, adjust announced a major product addition to their mobile attribution and analytics system with the Fraud Prevention Suite.

With today’s product release, app developers and marketers will be able to leverage a comprehensive suite of tools that analyze and intervene in hundreds of millions of user acquisition workflows to prevent fraudulent activity from claiming payouts. Early beta results of the Fraud Prevention Suite indicate a substantial improvement in campaign activity with an estimated $1.7 million USD identified within 17 days, based on recent CPI rates of fraudulent charges.

Paul H Müller, adjust’s Co-Founder and CTO, said: “The Fraud Prevention Suite gives our clients a completely new way to proactively mitigate potential fraudulent charges and optimize their user acquisition spend across their entire user acquisition stack. We’re uniquely positioned to offer this kind of solution in the market because our technology is directly embedded in all the advertising our clients run – so we can analyze every interaction as it happens, and change how that data is interpreted on the fly. This is unlike reactive, after-the-fact analysis tools that are unable to prevent corrupted datasets and illegitimate payouts.”

adjust’s Fraud Prevention Suite specifically targets three typical approaches by fraudulent publishers:

● Anonymous IP Filtering is the first implementation to actively reject pay-outs for simulated traffic originating from data centers or other illegitimate locations.
● Purchase Verification synchronously vets and verifies purchases, allowing app publishers to block cost-per-acquisition payouts or revenue shares from faked purchases.
● Click Spam Distribution Modelling analyzes the aggregate distribution of users acquired to rapidly prevent apps from faking background “clicks” and thereby claiming organic traffic as paid.

In January, adjust ran initial beta tests of its product suite with customers, like San Francisco-based HotelTonight, by sampling a traffic flow that included more than 400 million installs to generate an overview of fraudulent activities. This initial test targeted only the portion of paid user acquisition from major US and European brands which were generated from so-called “anonymous IPs” – a strong indication that the traffic had been tampered with or falsified. Starting today, all customers have the opportunity to access adjust’s product suite for protection from fraudulent activity and charges.

Brian Han, Head of Growth at HotelTonight, said: “Controlling the quality of our traffic, and thereby preventing fraudulent activity, is a key concern for us. adjust’s Fraud Prevent Suite is the first solution we’ve found that is able to proactively intervene, and we’re really excited about using adjust for that purpose.”

Additionally, to provide deeper understanding and insights to customers and partners, adjust is hosting the first-ever European mobile fraud conference, called “Mobile Spree”, on June 2 in Berlin. Initial confirmed key speakers for the conference include Spotify, Zalando, Delivery Hero, GetYourGuide, and HotelTonight. Interested parties can learn more at http://mobile-spree.com.
