GTA VGrand Theft Auto V has hold on to the top spot this week with FIFA 14 still behind in second. The highest new title is Skylanders Swap Force which has entered at number three. Swap Force doesn’t manage to match predecessor Skylanders Giants which made it to number two this time last year. Further down the chart is Nintendo’s Sonic: Lost World which has debuted at number eleven just missing out on a top ten spot.

Train2Game News: UK Top 20 Games – 14.10.13

GTA VAfter two weeks at the top after over taking GTA V, Fifa 14 has been dethroned by… GTA V! This may go on for a while until the next big game is released. Pokemon X and Pokemon Y entered the charts at numbers three and four respectively just ahead of Beyond Two Souls which has debuted at number five. The only other new entry this week is Dragon’s Crown which just reached the top twenty at number nineteen.

Train2Game News: GTA V Online

GTA VToday a small downloadable title update will be released on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Once installed, you get direct access to begin GTA Online, which will be unlocked in the GTA5 game menu.

It’s set a few months prior to the events of GTA5’s single-player story. To prevent griefing, Rockstar has designed house party invitations specifically to be a friendly social affair where players can visit each other’s houses without fear of having them ruined or losing their vehicles.

“If someone invites you into their property, then it is considered a friendly visit and you will not be able to shoot up their place or steal their cars from their garage,” Rockstar said.

“By the way, in any given lobby, if you and another player own the same piece of property, you will each be able to enter your own personal instance of that property at any given time,” Rockstar continued. “You will also be able to enter each other’s instance of that property if you exchange and accept an invite. This way, multiple instances of ownership of the same property within a lobby can co-exist.”

Rockstar then, again, addressed the thorny issue of GTA Online micro-transactions, which was revealed last week.

“To allay some concerns we’ve heard on this subject, we can assure you that the game is designed such that the option of purchasable GTA$ should not disrupt the playing field – and there are a few mechanics in place to help ensure that,” Rockstar explained.

“All players still have to rank up with Reputation Points (RP) in order to get access to purchase high-end items. No one can begin GTA Online and simply spend a lot of money out of the gate to get a leg up. You will have to earn your stripes and play to unlock access to the aspirational clothes, guns and other items.

“Please also remember that in GTA Online, hustling to afford the finer things by earning GTA$ doing robberies, stick-ups, winning races and other profitable activities is a fun gameplay experience rather than ever being a ‘grind’.”

Rockstar also pledged to tweak all areas of the game to make I fairer and iron out any balancing problems.

You can jump into GTA Online via the fourth (bottom) slot in your GTA5 character wheel right now in the United Kingdom after downloading the small update. You can read more about what is available in GTA V on Rockstar Newswire

Train2Game News: UK Top 20 Games – 30.09.13

FIFA 14I am surprised to announce there is a new number one this week in the game charts. After GTA V made over a billion dollars in just three days it has already been knocked off the top spot by FIFA 14.

Train2Game News: UK Top 20 Games – 23.09.13

GTA VGrand Theft Auto V, unsurprisingly, makes a stunning debut at the top of the Chart this week, breaking all records to become the fastest selling game ever.  With just five days on sale it has become the twenty fourth biggest selling title of all time in the UK.  It has sold more in its first week than the launch weeks of all other GTA titles combined and It’s launch week is 2.4 times greater than that of GTA IV and betters previous best Call of Duty: Black Ops by almost two hundred and fifty thousand units.  It might feel like GTA V was the only new release this week with 89% of all sales being for just that one title, but Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 debuts at number two, while further down the chart at number twenty is Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning. Aliens: Colonial Marines has made a return to the charts this week as well thanks to more retailer-promotion.

Train2Game News: GTA V part of British culture?

GTA VThe BBC has covered the story of GTA V being released and has said that it could be one of the greatest exports from England.

As the latest instalment of the super-violent series hits the shelves around the world, many are taking a step back and assessing the cultural impact of a title that has changed not only the games industry, but perhaps even the entertainment business as a whole.

A shocking fact about the GTA series you may not realise is that even before today’s release of Grand Theft Auto 5, the GTA series has already sold more games than The Who have sold records. That is a mind blowing fact and shows how big this series really is. Across the world, the franchise has shifted more than 135 million units since its 1997 debut.

In the years since its release, the series would be named by the Guinness Book of Records as the most controversial video game in history – an accolade based mostly on the number of column inches dedicated to the series but had the game simply been about violence, it would not have stood the test of time, argues Brian Baglow, a writer on the first title in the series.

“The games sector had always been very good at blowing stuff up – creating more realistic bullet holes – but they had no real cultural relevance. GTA on the other hand, as it’s been set in a contemporary environment, has acted like a black mirror set up against society.”

In GTA5, for example, that mirror lashes out at many aspects of today’s popular culture, taking on foes including TV talent shows and social networking – a less-than-subtle dig at Facebook comes in the shape of “Lifeinvader”. Lifeinvader’s strapline, if the point needed pushing home further, is: “Where your personal information becomes a marketing profile (that we can sell).”

All the games – bar an early London-based spin-off – are set in the USA but crucial to the series’ success is that the world the characters inhabit is peppered with a distinctly British outlook, argues Mr Baglow.

“What GTA does is it actually take the American culture as we understand it from movies – it’s every gangster movie, it’s every crime caper. It uses that, but keeps it very grounded with a British sensibility.

“This is a very large part of the influence of Rockstar North, based in Edinburgh – there’s a tongue-in-cheek streak running throughout. That’s something that people tend to miss.”

The fifth instalment is forecast to sell in the region of 25 million copies within the first 12 months of its release but whether the series will be held up in the future as a prime example of British creative culture is still open to much debate.

Train2Game News: musicMagpie competition

GTA VWith the release of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V just over a week away, musicMagpie are holding a competition to win a copy of the game.

musicMagpie, a website where you can sell your unwanted Games, Movies and CD’s, is giving you the chance to win a copy of GTA V and a limited edition PlayStation 3 with their new competition. Second prize is a limited edition copy of the game and third prize is the standard edition of the game.

GTA V is one of the gaming release of the year and with the collector’s edition, you’ll be getting the best of everything GTA has to offer; as-well as the game itself, you’ll benefit from exclusive downloadable content, custom characters for GTA Online, a collectable SteelBook complete with exclusive Artwork, a Blueprint map, a New Era GTA V Snapback cap and a GTA V Security Deposit Bag.

All you need to do is name the three central characters of GTA V. Once you’ve entered, the winners will be selected at random from all the correct answers that are received.

GTA V is set to take gaming to a whole new level. Set in the fictionalised city of San Andreas, the game’s storytelling focuses on the pursuit of ‘the almighty dollar’. Gamers will be able to switch perspectives whenever they like and drop in on any of the characters to see what they are up to. As-well as the central missions, there’s the usual truck load of side missions to get to grips with, or you can just treat the city as your very own playground

To enter the competition and to read the full terms and conditions they can all be found on the music Magpie site at: http://www.musicmagpie.co.uk/blog/article.asp?id=813
