Twitch Games DevTwitch has added a new category that focuses on games development, offering an insight into the game creation process.

The new category – simply titled Game Development – allows studios to stream footage of their developers working on the game, whether its creating artwork, designing levels or tweaking gameplay mechanics.

The category actually launched on October 16th, according to Polygon, and so far has a few devs showing off their work-in-progress.

“We conducted a Twitch Town Hall session at PAX Prime, which is when we let our community share ideas they would like to see implemented on the platform,” said Twitch’s director of community and education Marcus Graham, aka djWHEAT.

“The idea of having a section for game developers was suggested and it resonated with the audience, so that inspired us to add it as a category.”

Train2Game News Halloween Hackathon

WewanaPlay is going to show you how to make a game quickly by challenging coders to make a game in just 30 hours with their Halloween Hackathon which is supported by big name companies such as Unity.

WewanaPlay, an innovative Birmingham based gaming startup is now turning startup creator. This weekend WewanaPlay is offering a fantastic chance to see how a Hackathon works thanks to their Halloween themed event which will take place in their head office and will also be streamed live on Twitch for everyone to follow along.

The stream will be live between Sat 25th Oct, 9am until Sun 26th , 4pm UK time, supported by the tens of thousands of users of their smartphone application. WewanaPlay was actually started on a weekend hackathon and now they want to give back that experience to new gaming companies.

Talented individuals making up 3 or more teams will be tasked with developing a working Halloween themed game in just 30 hours. The teams are free to use whatever software they wish and develop for whatever chosen platform.

The event is being live streamed on Twitch and is open to anyone who wants to view it. If you are interested in seeing what games can be produced in 30 hours and how it can be done, come watch.  The WewanaPlay team will be there to welcome you!

WewanaPlay hopes this event will show how fun coding can be and hopefully show how within a short time, someone with coding experience can create something which the whole world can enjoy. Well… that’s the aim anyway! Remember Flappy Birds was said to have been made in just 3 hours.

WewanaPlay would love you to follow the event on the live stream and even challenge you to take part from your own homes.  If you think you can produce an awesome game in the same time frame as them, either on your own or as part of a team, then join virtually!

All you have to do is send a tweet to @Wewana_Play along with regular updates and perhaps even your own live stream. It will be interesting to see what games are made and remember there is a year subscription to Unity3D Pro up for grabs for the winner.

The teams will also be wanting feedback from those who just love to play games, so be sure to tune in and play test some awesome new games.

Train2Game News YouTube to buy Twitch

TwitchThe Twitch broadcasting service is reportedly being bought by YouTube for for than $1 Billion according to a report.

Twitch is a popular video streaming platform that allows players to broadcast themselves and their gameplay over the internet. The company has seen massive success over the past few years, with Sony and Microsoft opting to integrate Twitch streaming and viewing functionality natively into the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In its first week of streaming the Xbox One Twitch app hosted over 108,000 unique broadcasters, accounted for 22 per cent of the game streaming service’s total broadcaster base. In December 2013, following the PlayStation 4’s launch, 20 per cent of all Twitch streamers were broadcasting from PS4 systems.

In May 2013, Twitch reported its unique monthly viewership was over 34 million users. In addition to platform holders, the company has entered into partnerships with a number of the industry’s biggest publishers including Ubisoft, EA, Activision and Sony Online Entertainment.

Speaking to Variety, sources familiar with the deal have suggested the Google subsidiary will purchase Twitch “all-cash” and that the announcement is expected to be made imminently.

Train2Game News Twitch dated for Xbox One

Xbox OneAs of 11th March, the Xbox One’s Twitch app will finally support livestreaming. What’s more, it’ll allow you to join a broadcaster’s Xbox Live party while watching their stream.

Livestreaming was originally planned for launch, but was delayed “to ensure that the Twitch broadcasting experience meets all of your expectations”. Microsoft and Twitch now claim that the Xbox One Twitch app is the most “complete” you’ll find on a console.

“It’s complete integration,” Twitch CEO Emmett Shear said yesterday. “It’s exciting because we’ve never had the ability to broadcast from a console like this with such a deep level of integration. The concept of being able to join a broadcasters’ party is really cool, and it’s another step in the direction of interacting more closely with broadcasters.”

The PS4’s Twitch app has supported livestreaming since launch but it doesn’t allow you to join the broadcaster’s party, however. “That’s a very certain type of experience,” Xbox vice president of marketing and strategy Yusuf Mehdi observed of Sony’s offering. “For us, we thought that was too limiting for what our fans would want. Our fans really want the full next-gen service, so that’s why we decided to take our time, do it right and have it come out in this fashion.”

“This will open up the social aspect of Xbox One in a new way,” he added. “The community of Twitch is huge, and this allows us to type into that, and frankly do something that’s never been done before on consoles. You’ll be able to broadcast to any device and consume anyone’s broadcast from any device. It’s a console experience unique to the Xbox One.”

There’s Kinect support, of course. You’ll be able to start a broadcast by saying “Xbox, broadcast”. To stop, say “Xbox, stop broadcast”.
