Train2Game News GameMaker Studio 2 partners with Microsoft

Continuing GameMaker Studio 2’s banner launch year, YoYo Games has officially partnered with Microsoft to give developers access to the Xbox Live Creators Program.

With GameMaker Studio 2’s simple-to-use 2D toolset in hand, game creators can now quickly and directly publish their games to Xbox One consoles. The Creators Program’s minimum certification process has no requisite concept approval process. Once Xbox Live sign-in is implemented and Gamertags are displayed on the user interface (based on standard Windows Store policies), indie developers can easily bring their games to both PC and console environments.
“The dream for many developers is to bring their games to every platform, and our GameMaker Studio 2 integration with the Xbox Live Creators Program takes them one step closer to this,” said James Cox, general manager, YoYo Games. “This is where our partnership with Microsoft comes in – much of our efforts with GameMaker Studio 2 are focused on creating an engine that’s cost-effective, easy-to-learn and can port games to other platforms quickly. By partnering with the Xbox Live Creators Program, we have blown the doors open for indie games on Xbox One devices.”

“The Xbox Live Creators program makes it easy for independent developers to ship their games on Xbox One using the social features of Xbox Live – just create a Dev Center account, build a Live-enabled UWP game with GameMaker UWP, and you’re ready to launch on the Xbox One to the full Xbox audience,” said Chris Charla, Director of ID@Xbox at Microsoft. “GameMaker Studio 2 is already a really cool tool for development, and including easy-to-integrate support for Xbox Live Creators Program means that independent developers have another great option to use to showcase their games on the Xbox One Creators Collection!”

Train2Game News Mankind Divided supports Eye Tracking

Tobii, the global leader in eye tracking, and Eidos® Montreal, the award winning studio, today announced that the PC version Deus Ex: Mankind Divided® will support multiple eye-tracking features.
Powered by Tobii eye trackers, Tobii EyeX and the SteelSeries Sentry allow for greater game immersion, a cleaner UI, and enhanced navigation. A Tobii EyeX and Deus Ex® game bundle is set to be released on the 23rd of August.

“With the Deus Ex franchise being a window to the future, we always try to provide innovative, ground-breaking experiences for our players,” says André Vu, Executive Brand Director at Eidos Montréal. “The numerous Tobii eye tracking features built into the game will provide PC gamers an extra layer of immersion that blends perfectly with the futuristic universe depicted in Deus Ex.”

The Tobii EyeX, a €119 (or UK equivalent) peripheral eye tracker that connects to any existing PC via USB, empowers gamers with new, more realistic experiences in their games. Eye tracking serves as an additional modality that adds to the game experience without taking anything away or restricting the gamer in any way. Tobii sees numerous opportunities for eye tracking to enhance game immersion and realism, including the development of more responsive characters that interact with you when you make eye contact or features that mimic the functions of the eye, like dynamic depth of field or light exposure.
“The commitment by Eidos Montréal and Square Enix® to bring eye tracking to the mega Deus Ex franchise is another demonstration of the industry’s belief in the value of eye tracking,” said Oscar Werner, president of Tobii Tech. “We applaud the team at Eidos Montréal for their forward thinking approach and drive to give their gamers more.”

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided comes with a ton of new innovations to make gamers salivate. With eye tracking integration, gameplay becomes more immersive as the gamer’s eye movement is harnessed to create more natural and more realistic actions, making them part of this futuristic, dystopian world. Tobii eye tracking features include:

·         Aim at Gaze – Look at the target to take aim, then press a button and fire. This feature let players take out enemies using their natural gaze and will even work when locking the tesla gun for all-out mayhem.

·         Extended View- Look to the edge of the screen and the game’s camera will pan – giving players a wider field of view with just a glance. The natural eye movement will allow further immersion into the game’s environment and let players control what they want to see – just as in real life.

·         Icarus Dash at gaze – Simply look in the direction you want Adam to move in – even vertically. This will allow players you use the controls in a more fluid manner.

·         Interact at gaze – This feature lets players move effortlessly using the natural gaze to intuitively interact with objects. Look at an object, press a button and automatically move towards it before picking it up.

·         Clean UI- This feature lets player access UI info only when needed, giving them deeper immersion into the game’s environment. Look and they’ll appear. Look away, they’ll become nearly transparent. The screen is always covered fully in the game’s world, with the vital stats just a glance away. Helps you embrace the game’s environment. Helps players keep track of what you need to –when they need to.

·         Cover at Gaze – This feature lets players find refuge when the heat is on just by gazing across the environment – highlighting places you can hide behind. (Not available on August 23, this feature will be available in an upcoming update.)

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Deus Ex: Human Revolution®, builds on the franchise’s trademark choice and consequence, action RPG based gameplay, to create both a memorable and highly immersive experience. Players will once again take on the role of Adam Jensen, now an experienced covert agent, and will gain access to his new arsenal of customizable state-of-the-art weapons and augmentations. With time working against him, Adam must choose the right approach, along with whom to trust, in order to unravel a vast worldwide conspiracy. Train2game News Windows Android Emulator

image

KOPLAYER is a Windows Android emulator that lets you run one or more virtual Android instances on your Windows 7/8/10 PC-bridging the gulf (or filling the void) between relatively scarce Windows Mobile games, Windows PC games, and Android games.

KOPLAYER makes it easy to enjoy the larger screen and added convenience of playing some of your favorite Android games on your Windows PC, whether it’s a little Angry Birds side action to distract you from work, catching up on your favorite strategy game, or playing multiple games simultaneously if you’re a gaming multi-tasker.

Installing KOPLAYER is as easy as running a simple Wizard, and KOPLAYER emulation works seamlessly via mouse right out of the gate. Opening a new KOPLAYER instance starts a basic tutorial and presents an uncluttered Android screen with a Google Play Store link. Just connect a GMAIL account, open the Play Store, and then install your favorite games.

KOPLAYER also includes KOPLAYER Multi-Manager, which lets you run multiple, simultaneous virtual Android instances-which you can name and even quickly clone, so you don’t have to re-configure every instance. For example, if you create an instance and have already installed all your favorite games, you can then clone that instance. You can run as many instances as you have screen space for, and run a different app in each one.

Thus KOPLAYER can be perfect for keeping up with your favorite ‘time-based’ F2P games like Clash of Clans, checking in on virtual villagers and their building progress when your mobile device isn’t available-or when you just want the benefit of a larger screen.

The KOPLAYER supports 1280×720 resolution and 1024×600 resolution, and it even enables you to configure the amount of video RAM dedicated to the display. You can also customize the resolution manually. There are also convenient buttons for taking screenshots and video of your games in KOPLAYER icon bar, as well as buttons for activating your camera (if your PC has one), configuring/accessing a shared folder, and adjusting your volume. And if you’re the sort who wants to play some Angry Birds on the sly at work, there’s even a default ‘boss key’ (CTRL+ALT+W).

For games with touch screen controls, you can activate the ‘keyboard’ (press F12 or click the icon in the left menu) to assign key commands on-the-fly. Click a location on the screen, and then press a key to assign the keypress to the touch screen control. For example, in Angry Birds Go! You can click the keyboard, then click over the directional arrows to assign the A and D keys to the left/right touchscreen arrows. This does mean that in some games-Angry Birds Go! For example-you must first start the action and then assign the keys because the touchscreen controls don’t appear on screen until the action starts. The keyboard control editor isn’t the most intuitive element of the KOPLAYER, so you may need to experiment with it a bit to find the optimal keyboard/mouse combination for different games. And a game designed for a touchscreen may still not play as well with emulated keyboard controls.

That said, the KOPLAYER still works very well with a variety of games, with real time and turn-based strategy games (i.e. those where a mouse makes a suitable replacement for a finger) being particularly well-suited to it. Angry Birds (and its various incarnations), Clash of Clans (an RTS game), and Clash Royale (a tower defense game) all seemed to work flawlessly, at least within the limited scope of testing performed for this review. Similar games would likely play and perform equally well.

For the true gaming multi-tasker: Using KOPLAYER’s Multi-Manager to play multiple games simultaneously.

Train2game News Marmalade at Microsoft Developer Conference

image

Marmalade Technologies Ltd is attending Build 2016, Microsoft’s annual developer conference.

Between March 30 and April 1, the team behind the award-winning game development platform will be on-hand in the Moscone Center, San Francisco, showcasing the latest version of the Marmalade Platform.

Marmalade is excited to demonstrate how the Marmalade Platform, Windows and Visual Studio work together to create innovative games for Windows 10 and more.

“Marmalade has worked closely with Microsoft to support both Windows 10 and Visual Studio 2015,” says Ryan Gilmour, Head of Product Management at Marmalade. “The Universal Windows Platform, at the heart of Windows 10, and Visual Studio 2015’s focus on cross-platform development are an ideal fit for our technology.”

The Marmalade Platform offers simple, direct integration with Visual Studio 2015, requiring only a single click to open your project in the IDE: it’s then ready to build, deploy and debug.

“Being able to offer Marmalade developers the ability to build, deploy and debug their games for iOS, Windows 10 and Android, with Windows and Visual Studio, is a great feature,” continues Gilmour. “And thanks to the built-in Visual Studio Emulator for both Windows and Android, you don’t even need to have a physical device on-hand to get going with debugging natively.”

Build 2016 delegates will also see how Marmalade 2D Kit reduces the time and cost of building a rich, dynamic and engaging UI experience for gaming apps. On top of this there will be an opportunity to glimpse the future of Marmalade 3D Kit, including Marmalade’s next generation graphics architecture, built to take full advantage of technologies such as DirectX 11 and DirectX 12.

Marmalade will be at booth #707 during Build 2016. All Windows developers attending the event are invited to visit us to see the Marmalade Platform and Visual Studio in action together.

Build 2016 visitors interested in speaking to Marmalade in person at the event can book a meeting via the Build 2016 event page on the Marmalade website.
