The story:

Unveiled at the PUBG MOBILE 1st Anniversary party, PUBG MOBILE Club Open 2019 (PMCO 2019) marked the start of the long-term and committed partnership by Tencent Games and PUBG Corporation with Vivo to build out a true mobile esports eco-system for the world’s most popular mobile game, PUBG MOBILE.

The PMCO 2019 is divided into Spring Split and Fall Split, each with a separate prize pool totalling $2.5 million USD. Vivo, the smartphone company, is the official title sponsor of the PMCO 2019, providing smartphones to players and fans during both splits. The Spring Split Global Finals will take place in Germany this July.

Beginning March 22nd, more than 35,000 teams from around the world will compete in the first online qualifiers for the PMCO 2019 Spring Split. The online qualification period ends on March 30th.

PMCO 2019 arrives on the heels of 2018’s PUBG MOBILE Star Challenge, a worldwide circuit of tournaments that was watched by more than 230 million online viewers for the Global Finals in Dubai, where the Thai team RRQ Athena took home the Global Championship and $200,000 USD.

For PMCO 2019, 16 teams from across 10 regions (South East Asia, India, the Middle East, North America, South America, Europe, Korea, Japan, China and Wildcard) will compete in the Spring Split Global Finals in Germany. 60 different investors are expected to attend the event on 3 and 4 April in central London, running during the wider 2-14 April 2019 London Games Festival. The event has grown in popularity since its 2016 debut and continues to attract investor heavyweights looking to fund new games businesses and hear innovative pitches.

Recent research has shown that the global appetite for games investments is soaring, with $5.7bn spent on games companies in 2018 – double the amount in 2017.

New to the Market in 2019 are a range of established world-famous investors who haven’t visited before but have been attracted to London and the Games Festival by its unique mix of talent, culture and cost-effectiveness. These include Accel, Balderton Capital, BigBen Interactive, Chucklefish, DMM, ExWorks Capital, Finstock Capital, Gameforge, Kowloon Nights, Private Division, and Triple Dragon.

The London Games Festival will return in 2019 with an extended run and bigger events from 2 April to 14 April across the city.

London Games Festival, backed by the Mayor of London with funding of £1.2m over three years, seeks to make London the games capital of the world. It is delivered by Games London, an initiative from Film London, the capital’s screen industries agency, and video games trade body Ukie (The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment).

Over 65,000 people attended 40 different events across 20 different venues during the 2018 festival. LGF has more games on show than any other global games event with nearly 400 games to play across its events. The Festival has also established itself as a platform for global business in games, connecting attendees with investors to secure deals worth nearly £20m in potential business last April.

The 2019 event will see the return of tentpole activities for the public, including the headline-grabbing Games Character Cosplay Parade and an expanded Now Play This at Somerset House, which will reach more attendees than ever. Overall the festival will provide a wider programme of outdoor events and an even bigger offering for the games developer community – while some of its core programming will focus on the impact games are having on culture, health and the wider creative industries.
