Train2Game News: Next Xbox name rumours

Xbox 360sMore rumours have hit the web today about the next generation Xbox Console. This time regarding the name of the system.

Fusible have noticed that Microsoft have registered several domain names using “Xbox Fusion” including XboxFusion.info, XboxFusion.biz, XboxFusion.de, XboxFusion.co.uk, amongst others. Xbox has other names registered such as XboxNext.com and XboxGold.com

Names being kicked around include the Xbox 720, Xbox Infinity, Xbox Infinite, Xbox Gold, Xbox 8, Xbox Durango, Xbox Next and more but Xbox Fusion seems more likely to be the name of the next console.

Microsoft may have balanced the risk of a leak versus the embarrassment they suffered during the Halo 4 and Kinect launches when it turned out that they hadn’t registered the domains ahead of time, ensuring that they were forced to buy them from those who were quick enough to grab them before Microsoft could.

I am personally quite glad, if the rumours are true, they are moving on from the 360 name. It is a new beginning and I never liked the idea of just doubling the number. It seemed a bit lazy to me.

The details of what this could mean along with other details should all be announced on the day all Microsoft fans are looking forward to, May 21. This is the day that Microsoft will be making a huge announcement on.

Train2Game News: Microsoft analyst comments on next Xbox

XboxPreviously, on the Train2Game blog, we reported rumours, that the next Xbox may have to always be connected to the internet. It seems, as time goes on, those rumours may be true.

Microsoft analyst Paul Thurrot has revealed that Microsoft will reveal its next-generation Xbox at an event on 21st May and the console will launch in early November.

Thurrot reiterated what was rumoured already – that previous Microsoft design documents have mentioned the “always internet connected” feature.

Thurrot claims “Looking at some of the stuff I got a long time ago, it actually says ‘must be internet-connected to use’ in the notes. That’s all I have, but it does say that.”

Mr Thurrot also revealed the console will be named just “Xbox” and the Microsoft’s machine will be “expensive”. He estimated they will cost around $500 (roughly £326, although likely higher in the UK) but a lower price $300 (£195) model will also be available with some form of subscription.

He also mentioned two other unannounced Xbox-branded machines. One, code-named “Yumo”, was to be an Xbox device purely for entertainment apps, rather than games. The product has seemingly been abandoned to avoid confusing consumers.

The other machine is a new budget-priced Xbox 360 model, code-named “Stingray” which is due for release later this year and the device will cost just $99 (£65). Thurrot suggested this may mean Microsoft’s new Xbox would not play Xbox 360 games.

I would speculate, the choice to create a cheap 360 model would be there way of competing with Android consoles such as the Ouya and Gamestick.

All eyes now look to May 21 in hopes of learning more about Microsoft’s next generation console.

Train2Game News: Cheaper Next-Gen development

Take-Two boss, Strauss Zelnick, believes that developing for the next generation of consoles could be cheaper.

Despite the jump forward in technological prowess expected for Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, Zelnick suggests that development costs may actually be lower than the present.

Zelnick said “Do we believe that titles will be a whole lot more expensive to make for next-gen? The answer is we do not

“In many instances, we believe that it may be somewhat easier to make titles for next-gen depending on how the technology comes together.”

Sony and Microsoft are believed to start releasing news on the new consoles next year, hopefully followed by the release of one of them by the end of 2014.

There is still a long road ahead before the next generation so many things may change but as it stands at the moment the future looks bright.
