The intuitive controls make this fighting game accessible to players of all skill levels, and the stunning visuals emphasise the size and power of each Pokémon.

Train2Game News Splatoon hits huge milestone

image

Nintendo has hauled up its nets, tallied its catch and crossed another milestone.

Sales of Splatoon, the new squid-based game for Nintendo’s Wii U home console, have crossed 1 million worldwide, according to Nintendo’s internal figures. That figure includes more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 230,000 sold in Europe and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand.

“Ever since Splatoon launched on May 29 in the United States, we’ve seen thousands of people go online to have fun in this colorful, chaotic competition,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “This milestone puts us in a nice position as we prepare to launch 11 more exclusive Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games before the end of the year, plus amiibo, digital offerings and games from our third-party partners.”

Splatoon multiplayer pits teams of four online players against one another as they try to splatter a majority of the playing area with their team’s colorful ink. Players can transform into squids and swim through pools of their own ink to move faster or maneuver up walls to access hard-to-reach areas.

Train2Game News Nintendo at E3 2015

image

In an hour long show reel Nintendo showed off their late 2015 and early 2016 games lineup.

With the publisher previously announcing that Zelda on Wii U would be delayed until 2016, it did not feature in the event at all.

Instead, we were treated to a lengthy gameplay trailer for Starfox Zero on Wii U with transforming vehicles and dual screen gamepad controls to add additional gameplay mechanics to the well loved franchise.

The theme of the event was ‘transformation’ and to highlight the change in how the company handles their IP, Nintendo announced a partnership with Activision for Skylanders SuperChargers – exclusive characters and vechicles for the Wii U version of the game that act as both Skylanders characters and amiibo with a twist of the base.

With the game already released in Japan, it was highly expected that Xenoblade Chronicles X would get some new gameplay footage and a western release date, and Nintendo did not disappoint in that department. In a new and exciting trailer showing off combat, mech warfare and planet surface exploration, it ended with a 4th Dec 15 release date.

Among the other new highlights was The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heores, Hyrule Warriors Legends, Yo-Kai Watch and Fire Emblem Fates, all on 3DS, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival on Wii U.

Train2Game News Super Mario Bros inducted in Hall of Fame

image

Super Mario Bros. is to be inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame.

A committee of journalists, scholars and video game industry members has inducted Super Mario Bros. into the new World Video Game Hall of Fame in the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York.

The original game for the Nintendo Entertainment System is one of six inductees in this inaugural class.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame recognizes electronic games that meet the following criteria: icon-status, longevity, geographical reach and influence. Launching in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Mario Bros. is one of the most well-known and best-selling games of all time, selling more than 40 million units worldwide and starring instantly recognizable characters like Mario, Luigi and Bowser.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the long-running franchise. To evolve the series like never before, Nintendo is launching Mario Maker, a game for the Wii U console that lets players play, create and share their own Super Mario Bros. levels using four Super Mario Bros. game themes – from the 8-bit pixel art of the original game to the world and characters of New Super Mario Bros. U.

Train2Game News 2015 Pokémon UK Championships

image

2014 World Champion’s Pokémon Pachirisu will be distributed at the 2015 Pokémon UK Video Game National Championships on May 30–31, 2015, at EventCity, Manchester.

Those attending this year’s Pokémon Video Game National Championships in the UK will be able to receive the Electric-type Pokémon Pachirisu through a special distribution. And this isn’t any ordinary Pachirisu! This special Pokémon was part of the successful team used by last year’s Masters Division World Champion.

In 2014, Se Jun Park became the first Pokémon Video Game World Champion from South Korea in the history of the Pokémon Championships. His win shows the ever-increasing expansion of the Pokémon Championship Series to more than 30 countries in all corners of the globe, and comes right on the heels of the 2013 win by Arash Ommati of Italy, the first Video Game World Champion from Europe. Could an English Pokémon Trainer take the crown this year?

Pachirisu played a key role in Se Jun’s victory, and he kept a Pachirisu Poké Doll by his side on stage, which he waved to the crowd after he won the Championship.

Pachirisu is legal in tournaments for the 2015 season. The Level 50 Pokémon offered in this distribution has the moves Nuzzle, Follow Me, Super Fang, and Protect, and the Hidden Ability Volt Absorb.

The free-to-enter UK tournament will take place at EventCity in Manchester on May 30–31, and will determine who will go on to win Travel Awards or invitations to the 2015 Pokémon World Championships in Boston, Massachusetts, in August.

The UK Video Game National Championships are open to players of any nationality, while the Pokémon TCG tournament is open only to citizens of the UK.

To compete in the video game tournament, players need to bring a system from the Nintendo 3DS family and a copy of Pokémon Omega Ruby or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, along with their Player ID. To get a Player ID, please visit Pokemon.co.uk or register at the event. To receive the special Pachirisu, players are not required to take part in the tournament, but will need to bring along their systems.

The final joint European VG and TCG National Championships of the season, will take place at the 2015 Pokémon Italian National Championships: June 13–14, 2015, at Mediolanum Forum, Assago

Additional European TCG National Championships and other qualifying video game events will also take place this spring, and information on these events can be found using the event search tool here: www.pokemon.co.uk/play
