Train2Game News: Mid-week round up

Blizzard Entertainment released Mists Of Pandaria yesterday. The latest expansion for World Of Warcraft. Blizzard have also said that they have no fear of Windows 8 and will release games for any platform their players are on.

Avenged Sevenfold have released a new track that will feature on Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2. The song, Carry On, is the second song the band have released for a Call Of Duty game. They previously released Not Ready To Die with one of the Call Of Duty: Black Ops DLC packs.

Telltale’s five Walking Dead episodic games will be put on disc in December for Xbox360 and PS3. The game is based on the graphic novel turned TV show and through playing them myself I can say, if you are a fan of the series, play this game. You won’t be disappointed.

Nvidia’s head of cloud gaming, Phil Eisler, believes that cloud gaming could take over from consoles. He believes that consoles have one final generation in them before they die out, leaving the world of gaming in the hands of the cloud.

Ubisoft have announced that Assassins Creed 3 will not play on Windows XP. The company has released the specifications needed to play the game. There is a version for Windows 8 in the pipeline though.

Bethesda have released an animated prequel to its upcoming Dishonored. The webseries is called Tales of Dunwall and the gorgeous animated shorts are being released in three parts. The videos can be found on YouTube and they show the downfall of the in game city.

Sony Xdev are giving a small studio the opportunity to win £25,000. This new initiative, called Playstation Pioneers, will reward developers for a PlayStation Mobile game concept and will also offer successful candidates the opportunity to work alongside XDev. Further details can be found here.

An extra four titles have been added to the Humble Bundle 6. The titles are: Bit.Trip Runner, Gratuitous Space Battles, Jamestown, and Wizorb. If you have already purchased the bundle, you will get the new games added at no extra cost.

If you are attending Eurogamer this weekend you can get a special surprise when you play Company Of Heroes 2. Everyone that plays the game or attends the developer session at the event will get a code to access a future beta for the game.

At Eurogamer this year you will be able to play the highly anticipated Dishonored.

The new game from Bethesda looks to be a Half Life meets Assassins Creed style game.

This is the first of four developer diaries about the game. I will upload one a day leading up to Eurogamer.

Train2Game News: Watch two Dishonored gameplay videos with developer commentary

Get an insight into development of Dishonored in not one, but two gameplay demos with commentary from Arkane Studios Co-Creative Directors Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith.

Colantonia spoke to The Train2Game Blog about Dishonored at Gamescom last year.

The two videos show Colantonio and Smith discussing two different playthroughs of ‘The Golden Cat,’ a mission that tasks you with assassinating The Pendleton Brothers, two corrupt aristocrats. The first Dishonored video shows a stealthy approach to the mission, while the second sees the Arkane Studios Co-Creative Directors, commentating on a more action-based style.

Train2Game News: Next Skyrim update introduces mounted combat

 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim players will be able to partake in mounted combat when the new feature is added by Bethesda’s 1.6 Skyrim update.  You’ll be able to strike down foes while riding a horse.

Train2Game students may recall that the feature first appeared in an internal Skyrim Game Jam at Bethesda. Of course, Train2Game students will be familiar with game jams after taking part in one run by Train2Game and Epic last year.

The new patch also comes with the standard bug fixes, and will arrive on all platforms soon. PC players however, can already take a look at mounted combat by opting into the latest Steam Beta update.

Steam integration and modding support for Skyrim has proved to be very successful, with almost 14 million mods downloaded using the Skyrim workshop.  There’s much more about modding here.

Train2Game News: How The Elder Scrolls Online story is being written by Zenimax

Train2Game students can find out how the story is being written for The Elder Scrolls Online, the upcoming MMO from Zenimax Studios based on Bethesda’s popular RPG series.

Speaking in an exclusive video interview with Game Informer, lead content designer Rich Lambert and creative director Paul Sage discuss the story for The Elder Scrolls Online and how it fits in with Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, and Tamriel as a whole.

They also reveal some of the techniques used at Zenimax to decide on their story, including research, brainstorming and communication with Bethesda Game Studios.

Train2Game News: Wolfenstein 3D celebrates 20th anniversary with free browser version and director’s commentary

Train2Game students will no doubt know about the legacy Wolfenstein 3D,  the id Software title that arguably helped kick-start the popularity of PC first person shooters in the early 1990s.

Of course, the FPS is now one of the most popular genre’s in gaming, but Train2Game students can take a look at Wolfenstein 3D, perhaps for the first time, thanks to Id Software and Bethesda releasing a free-to-play browser version of the game to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Visit http://wolfenstein.bethsoft.com/ to play the classic FPS using your browser.

Train2Game news: Skyrim mods downloaded over 13.6 million times using Steam

 

Train2Game News reported that in February, two million The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim had been downloaded since the release of Skyrim Worksop on Steam.

Now, Bethesda has announced Skyrim Steam mods have topped 13.6 million. Modding is a great way for Train2Game students to show off their skills, with Ubisoft’s Adrian Lacey last week telling us that the Ghost Recon team features a number of former modders.

The Train2Game Blog has previously shown you some of the stranger Skyrim mods, including ones that let you turn Dragons into My Little Pony or “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and a mod that turns Mudcrabs into Futurama’s Doctor Zoidberg.

Train2Game news: Over two million Skyrim mods downloaded since creation tools launched

Train2Game Blog readers are likely to be aware that modding tools for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim were launched last week, and the Skyrim Workshop has proved to be very popular.

Over two million Skyrim mods were downloaded in the first three days the Bethesda Creation Kit was made available to the public, with more than 2,500 mods published on Steam by the community.

Train2Game students who want to get involved with the Skyrim modding scene, but are unsure where to start, can watch this helpful Skyrim Creation Kit tutorial video from Bethesda. You can also look at this thread on the Train2Game forum in which students are sharing their own Skyrim mods.
