On Monday mornings I will now be posting the top 20 UK games chart from UKIE to keep you all updated.

Dishonored has come in as the highest new IP this year at number 2 but nothing can knock FIFA off the top spot for the third week running. It is interesting to see that Skyrim and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are still in the top 20.

Train2Game News: Games industry blasts to new heights

The latest numbers from trade association UKIE show the UK games industry being worth £3.266 billion. It accounts for almost half of the entertainment market in the United Kingdom

Over 28,000 people are employed by the industry, 9000 of which are skilled roles at over 200 development studios. The research suggests over 32 million people actively play games in the UK, with the average age of 33. An equivalent of more than one console is owned per household.

In addition Google Play, the android market place, is catching up to Apple’s App Store.

Google play has just surpassed 25 billion downloads of its 675,000 applications and the App store hit 25 billion downloads back in March of its 700,00 apps.

Google has seen over 500 million Android device activations and Apple has seen over 400 million iOS devices activated. The number of Apple devices should rise with the recent release of iOS 6 and the iPhone 5. A current potential 900 million mobile gamers on Android and iOS alone.

Google intends to celebrate the 25 billion downloads milestone by offering cheaper featured apps and other discounts on films, books, albums and magazines for the next five days.

With such large numbers people can not ignore the games industry. It is now a big part of the world and should only get bigger with the introduction of the tax break.

The numbers have been released for the start of the London Games Festival which begins today with the opening of Eurogamer.

Train2Game News: UK Charts – LEGO Batman 2 makes it 4 in a row at No.1

LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes makes it four weeks in a row at No.1 as it continues to hold onto top spot in the charts, matching the same number of consecutive weeks FIFA 12 spent in the position earlier this year.

There’s no movement in the entire top three, with London 2012: The Official Video Game and The Amazing Spider-Man remaining at No.2 and No.3 respectively.  Dead Island Game of the Year Edition moves up one to No.4, while Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future soldier jumps four to No.5.

The Train2Game Blog recently spoke to Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Creative Director Jean-Marc Geoffroy and Ubisoft Development Director Adrian Lacey, with the pair offering advice to Train2Game students on getting into the industry.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 moves up two to No.6 in its 36th week on sale, with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim dropping one to No.7. FIFA 12 is No.8 in its 42nd week in the charts, with Spec Ops: The Line dropping five to No.9 in its third week on sale. Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games completes the top ten.

New release from Namco Bandai and Saber Interactive, Inversion, doesn’t even make the top 40 in its first week on sale, debuting at No.50.

The UKIE Gfk Chart-Track All Formats Top 10 for the week ending 14th July is therefore as follows:

1. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Warner Bros)
2. London 2012: The Official Video Game (Sega)
3. The Amazing Spider-Man (Activision)
4. Dead Island Game of the Year Edition (Koch Media)
5. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (Ubisoft)
6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (EA)
7. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda)
8. FIFA 12 (EA)
9. Spec Ops: The Line (2K Games)
10. Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Sega)

It’s a quiet week for new releases, but new games to hit the shelves include Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance for Nintendo 3DS.

What are your thoughts on the charts this week? Are you one of those people who’ve bought LEGO Batman 2? Will it stay No.1?

Train2Game News: UK Charts – LEGO Batman 2 No.1 for third week running

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes holds top spot of the UK charts for the third week in a row, the position the Warner Brothers title has remained since being released last month.

London 2012: The Official Video Game from SEGA sees sales almost double as it rises two places to No.2 as the Olympic Games get closer.  Last week’s new releases The Amazing Spider-Man and Spec Ops: The Line both drop one place each to No.3 and No.4 respectively.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy for 3DS reaches No.19 in its first week on sale, while physical copies of Funcom’s The Secret World see it make No.38 in the retail charts. However, the figures don’t take into account digital sales.

The UKIE Gfk Chart-Track All Formats Top 10 for the week ending 7th July 2012 is therefore as follows:

1. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Warner Bros)
2. London 2012: The Official Video Game (Sega)

4. Spec Ops: The Line (2K Games)
