EGX, producer of the UK’s premiere video games events, today announced that tickets for EGX Rezzed 2016 – in partnership once again with BAFTA– are now on sale.

Running from 7-9th April 2016, EGX Rezzed will build on the enormous success of this year’s event where over 12,000 gamers arrived to play more than 150 PC, console, virtual reality and board games from the likes of PlayStation, Xbox and Blizzard. Further developing the highly popular informal format, EGX Rezzed 2016 will feature more playable AAA and indie games, more Developer and Rezzed Sessions, more after show activities, more devs on the show floor and more free gaming stuff. Over 15,000 visitors are expected to attend.

All the headline features will be present, including the highly successful GamesIndustry.biz Career Fair. In 2015 49 Ukie Video Games Ambassadors and BAFTA Crew Games members, plus 8 games industry execs and many exhibitors advised the next generation of games industry professionals – including many school, college and university students – on how to land a career in games.

Visitors to EGX Rezzed 2015 were delighted with the show’s new home at the superb Tobacco Dock, London, reporting the highest ever satisfaction levels of any EGX event. “We can’t wait to return to London’s Tobacco Dock with an upgraded EGX Rezzed 2016”, said Matt Styles, Event Director. “Visitors and exhibitors loved the new and fascinating venue, especially the wonderful sense of gaming community it created. We’ll be building on the success of 2015’s Developer Sessions, which were a revelation. Valve dev Chet Faliszek’s Future of Virtual Reality and PlayTonic’s Yooka-Laylee announcement attracted record-breaking crowds both at the show and online. Developers and publishers are increasingly finding EGX Rezzed the ideal platform for their exclusive announcements”.

Train2Game News Best Games at EGX voted by the public

image

The results are in: visitors to EGX 2015 have overwhelmingly chosen Star Wars Battlefront as their Game of the Show.

Star Wars Battlefront enjoyed a huge presence on the show floor. EA’s booth featured a 20 v. 20 battle arena in which the Rebel Alliance faced-off against the might of the Galactic Empire at the famous Battle of Hoth. The game was also playable on the PlayStation booth where the co-op Survival Mode entertained gamers. EA stole the social media show with the inclusion of a full scale TIE Fighter – the ship and pilot were photographed throughout EGX.

EGX 2015 provided a brilliant platform to launch new hardware – Virtual Reality exploded onto the UK at the event with HTC Vive, PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift all playable ahead of their upcoming retail debuts. HTC Vive, powered by Steam VR, proved particularly popular, wowing the crowds with its fully-immersive 3D world and netting a very impressive second place. Elsewhere, Ubisoft had a particularly successful show in the eyes of gamers with three of its games in the top 10. Square Enix was also notable with two titles including the 6th placed Just Cause 3.

Indie gaming proved incredibly popular with the Indie MEGABOOTH, Rezzed Zone and Leftfield Collection packed with gamers enjoying stacks of unique game experiences on offer. The wonderful Rezzed Sessions made their debut at EGX this year, rounding off a hugely successful indie area. With over 350 screens of indie gaming on offer this year it’s especially impressive that Gang Beasts landed Indie Game of the Show by a strong margin. Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide and Aaero rounded off the top three.

“Gamers from across the UK and beyond descended on the NEC, Birmingham to welcome EGX to its new home”, said David Lilley, Managing Director of Gamer Events. “With the ever-growing EGX community scoring both the venue and the accessibility of the location more highly than 2014, we know EGX is ideally situated as the premier gaming event in the UK. The incredible size and popularity of the indie gaming area means we’re extremely excited for our upcoming London event, EGX Rezzed. Featuring both indie and AAA games, we can’t wait to return in April to Tobacco Dock”.

Train2Game NEws EGX 2015

egx2015I had the pleasure of attending EGX again this year, my fourth year in a row. This year however I took a slightly different approach.

Every other year I have just played the games at the event to see what the next big games are going to be like but as the event moved to its bigger venue at the NEC in Birmingham many of the games had a 3 hour plus wait.

All though I didn’t experience the games my self I did get to see many of them like Rainbow Six Siege which looked incredibly tactical, Tom Clancy’s: The Division which seemed more casual and accessible to casual players, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst which seemed to be just a modernised version of the original which in my opinion is no bad thing and finally Star Wars Battlefront which looks as good and exciting as we all hope it will be.

Instead of playing these games this year I took in the atmosphere and watched more of the talks. At the PlayStation stage I listened to Charles Cecil hold a Q and A on the Broken Sword series. It was truly heart warming to hear from a man who has been in the industry since the 80’s still have an incredible passion for the industry. He also dropped a hint that he may be working with comic book artist Dave Gibbons in the future.

Over on the Xbox stage, games personality Julia Hardy hosted a number of indie and triple A games coming to Xbox in the near future. She was also very passionate about the games she was covering with numerous interesting ID@Xbox games arriving soon.

In conclusion this year was again bigger and better than before with the move to Birmingham giving more space for bigger stands and more people.

image

EGX, the UK’s largest games event, today announced the 21 playable indie games and game experiences selected for this year’s Leftfield Collection, coming to EGX this 24th -27th September.

The Leftfield Collection, sponsored by SEGA, provides a free platform for indie developers to show their latest projects. Since 2008 it has quickly become a standard bearer for quality and original indie titles, with many award-winning and highly successful games. Previous collections have featured Thomas Was Alone, Joe Danger and Don’t Starve, to name but a few. Exhibiting in the Leftfield Collection is free for developers, however space is extremely limited and fiercely contested. The eclectic mix of games at next month’s EGX include: ‘atmospheric, relaxing, childhood countryside exploration simulator’ Quiet as a Stone; Man or Goat, where the player must decide whether pre-recorded goat noises are real or a man pretending to be a goat; and Kill Box (working title), which critically explores the nature of drone warfare through an interactive installation. ‘One-dimensional dungeon crawler’ Line Wobbler, the favourite Leftfield Collection game of this year’s EGX Rezzed, also makes a very welcome appearance. The 21 games selected are:

Den (working title, Nate Gallardo & Cat Burton), Face It! (Navel), FRIENDSHAPES (SFB Games), Galacto’s Intolerant (Kiwi Soft), HoPiKo (Laser Dog), Iconoclasts (Bifrost Entertainment), Kill Box (working title, Malath Abbas), Line Wobbler (Robin Baumgarten), Loot Rascals (Hollow Ponds), Man Or Goat (Newtquest Games), Megaton Rainfall (Pentadimensional Games, SL), Memory of a Broken Dimension (Outbounds), MODSORK (CinnoMan Games), Odonata (Rob Laro), PANORAMICAL (Fernando Ramallo & David Kanaga), Quiet as a Stone (Richard Whitelock), Southbank Portrait (Ian MacLarty), SpaceRagers (Alex Johansson), The Tamperdrome Collection (KO_OP Mode), The Wall Shall Stand (Pixel Tailors), Thumper (Drool).

The Leftfield Collection joins the Rezzed Zone (named after EGX’s springtime indie-focussed sibling) and the Indie MEGABOOTH (North America’s highly successful showcase of independent game developers) to bring over 200 screens of playable indie games to EGX, the largest ever showing. Whether a seasoned indie gamer or exploring the incredible diversity of these games, EGX will have countless moments of indie gaming joy.

Train2Game News Ubisoft at EGX 2015

image

Ubisoft have announced three big games will be playable at the UKs biggest gaming expo in September.

EGX, the UK’s biggest video games event, today announced that Ubisoft titles Tom Clancy’s The Division, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will all be playable at EGX this September 24-27, including a UK first public hands-on for Tom Clancy’s The Division.

In Tom Clancy’s The Division, a devastating pandemic sweeps through New York City on Black Friday, and one by one, basic services fail. In only days, without food or water, society collapses into chaos. The Division, an autonomous unit of tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives among us, these agents are trained to operate independently in order to save society.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate takes the series to a stunning recreation of Nineteenth Century Victorian London at the height of the Industrial Revolution, complete with underground criminal elements and the ongoing struggle between the common poor and rich elite. New Assassins, twins Jacob and Evie Frye, make it their mission to jump in and redress the balance.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege’s take on the tactical shooter has been wowing gamers worldwide since its announcement at E3 2014. This hyper-intense first-person shooter features explosive close quarters combat, high lethality, tactics and team play; all within a highly detailed, fully-destructible environment.

Louise Marchant, Group Marketing Manager at Ubisoft said, “We’re really pleased to be bringing three of our biggest games to EGX in the form of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Rainbow Six Siege and The Division. The show continues to go from strength-to-strength and we’re looking forward to seeing UK gamers get up-close and personal with the first-ever London-based Assassin’s Creed, the long-awaited return of Rainbow Six and the UK premiere of The Division”.

“Ubisoft fans are in for a treat at EGX as three upcoming heavyweight games from the publisher will be playable on the show floor”, said David Lilley, Managing Director of Gamer Events. “Visitors to EGX will have yet more bragging rights as they’ll get their hands on Ubisoft’s The Division before all their mates.
