Train2Game News: Student taking part in GameBlast

Ritchie DemicolSpecialEffect’s GameBlast charity event launches tomorrow and Train2Game student, Ritchie Demicol is taking part.

Ritchie, who has been a Train2Game student since February last year, will be playing the infamously difficult Dark Souls for 24 hours straight. This will be no easy task with the games frustrating difficulty level.

When asked why Ritchie decided to take part in the event he said “I decided to take part because I know it’s going to a great cause who design games and hardware for young children and adults who struggle to play video games due to certain disabilities. It will be a great help to those who can’t use move their body and have to use their eyes to control the game”

Ritchie begins his 24 hour marathon tomorrow and if you would like to support him and SpecialEffect you can donate by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/Ritchie-Demicol

Good luck Ritchie, you are supporting a fantastic charity!

Train2Game News: Trailers from the Video Game Awards

VGAThe Video Game Awards were held over the weekend and a number of new trailers were shown for some of the big games coming next year. The Train2Game blog has rounded them all up for you here.

The first one is for the new South Park game, The Stick of Truth. This game looks stunning and it is going to make a lot of South Park fans very happy. It looks so like an episode it is hard to see where the cut scenes end and the game play begins.

This trailer is obviously 18+. Do Not Watch if easily offended.

Next up is the trailer from Tomb Raider: Survivor. This game is again stunning to look at and looks to be action packed and innovative in it’s adventure. You get to see Lara Croft grow up from a girl fresh out of school to the Archaeologist we are familiar with. I haven’t played many Tomb Raider games personally but I am looking forward to this one, even more so following this trailer.

Finally it was revealed last night that a sequel is coming for one of the most brutally difficutly games their has been in recent years. Dark Souls 2 is coming and it is going to be as ruthless as ever

Train2Game news: UK Charts – FIFA 12 still dominating

Train2Game blog readers saw FIFA 12 storm to the top of the charts last week, with a record breaking performance. And while it may not have sold as many copies this time around, FIFA 12 has still had the 13th highest ever weekly sales for a game in the UK and remains at No.1.

It means that RAGE from id Software debuts at No.2, with another new entry in the form of Dark Souls following at No.3. Xbox 360 exclusive and former chart topper Gears of War 3 slips down to No.4, with F1 2011 at No.5 having dropped two places.

Zumba Fitness continues to feature in the top ten, following a long spell at No.1 during the summer, and is at No.6 this week, one spot ahead of another former No.1, Dead Island.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution slips to No.8, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is No.9 for the third week in a row, while Resistance 3 climbs up three places to complete the top ten.

NBA 2K12 reaches No.12 in its first week, while El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron debuts in the top 40 at 39, a month after its release.

The UKIE Gfk Chart-Track All Formats Top 10 for the week ending 8th October 2011 is therefore as follows:

1. FIFA 12 (EA)
2. Rage (Bethesda)
3. Dark Souls (Namco Bandai)
4. Gears of War 3 (Microsoft)
5. F1 2011 (Codemasters)
6. Zumba Fitness (505 Games)
7. Dead Island (Deep Silver)
8. Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Square Enix)
9. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney)
10. Resistance 3 (Sony)

Releases this week include PES 2012, Forza 4 and Just Dance 3.

So Train2Game, what are your thoughts on FIFA 12’s continuing success? Will it be dislodged by any of this week’s new releases? And have you been playing RAGE or Dark Souls?

Dark Souls contest could see Train2Game students get their names in game credits

Train2Game Art & Animation students have the chance to see their work appear in the upcoming Dark Souls thanks to a competition from Namco Bandai.

They’re giving fans the opportunity to design a shield that’ll be included in Dark Souls following its release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in October this year. It’s a great opportunity for Train2Game Art & Animation students to get their names into the credits of a Triple-A title.

To enter, interested Train2Game students need to ‘like’ the Dark Souls Facebook page then create a shield design using one of the three templates provided.

You have until 13th July to submit your designs after which the top ten will be decided by a week of voting from the community.  The top ten designs for each template will then be sent to game developers From Software who will pick the three winners for use in the game.

Of course, there’s nothing stopping any Train2Game student from entering the Dark Souls competition! But it’s probably something that’s more suited to the Train2Game Art & Animation students.

For more information about the Dark Souls design contest, see the the Dark Souls Facebook page. You can also ‘like’ the official Train2Game Facebook page.

Dark Souls is scheduled for release on 7th October for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

So Train2Game, will you enter the contest? Could you see such a competition as a way of trying to get into the game industry?

Leave your thoughts here on the Train2Game blog, or on the Train2Game forum.
