Train2Game News EVE Online Raises Money To Fight COVID-19

CCP Games, creators of the deep and uniquely player-driven spaceship MMO game EVE Online, are proud to announce PLEX for GOOD, the charitable EVE Online program, has been successful in raising over $130,000 for the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (CHS).

Raising $135,500 since April 3rd, PLEX for GOOD is a charitable program operated by CCP Games on behalf of EVE Online players.

Having already raised $107,454 in February for Australian bushfire relief efforts by the Red Cross, this year has been its most successful yet. It provides a way for EVE players to donate to a charitable cause through the use of the in-game digital currency PLEX – allowing for charitable donations by those who otherwise might not have the means to donate real money.

“An unprecedented global crisis has been met by an unprecedented level of support and for that, I am once again hugely proud, grateful and humbled by the efforts of our players,”said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games. “We stand together as a community in our support of the work that is being done by health workers, scientists, and institutes around the world to fight this pandemic and bolster its relief.”

Money raised will go directly to the World Health Organization (WHO) to coordinate the global relief effort for COVID-19, supporting countries to prevent, detect, and respond to the pandemic. It will also help the WHO to ensure that all countries – especially those with the weakest health systems – are prepared, as well as supporting their work to understand the virus, to ensure frontline workers get essential supplies and information, and to accelerate efforts to develop vaccines, tests, and treatments.

Donations were also made to the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (CHS), the prestigious policy think-tank which works to protect people’s health from epidemics and disasters, ensuring that communities remain resilient to major challenges, such as COVID-19. Their research focuses on improving organizations, systems, and tools to prevent and respond to outbreaks, whilst advancing policies and practice to address a range of challenges, including the global rise in emerging infectious diseases and a continued risk of pandemic flu.

Beginning in 2005 with fundraising efforts for the South East Asian Tsunami, PLEX for GOOD has now raised $713,620 for charitable causes, an incredible feat of which all EVE Online players can be immensely proud.

EVE Online can be downloaded for free by visiting www.eveonline.com. For all the latest information about the game, please visit EVE Updates and for any questions on CCP Games, visit the FAQ.

Pokémon GO is now officially connected to Pokémon HOME, giving Trainers the opportunity to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME!

This feature is rolling out incrementally to all Trainers based on their current Trainer level.

Keep checking Pokémon GO for the opportunity to transfer your Pokémon to Pokémon HOME.

Trainers will use a new feature in Pokémon GO called the GO Transporter to transfer Pokémon to Pokémon HOME. Every time you transfer a Pokémon, some energy will be drained from the GO Transporter. The energy used by the GO Transporter recharges over time, but it can also be replenished with PokéCoins. The energy cost to use the GO Transporter to transfer Pokémon varies depending on the Pokémon.

To celebrate this development, Trainers who transfer a Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME will receive the Mythical Pokémon Melmetal. This special Melmetal can Gigantamax in any battle in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield that allows it. This Melmetal can be received as a Mystery Gift in the mobile device version of Pokémon HOME. Trainers can then use the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon HOME to transfer this Melmetal to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield and add it to their team. This is the first time Gigantamax Melmetal has been made available to Trainers, so don’t miss out on this chance to team up with the Mythical Steel-type Pokémon!

After transferring a Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME, Trainers can open the Mystery Box in Pokémon GO, causing the rare Mythical Pokémon Meltan to appear on the map for a limited time. Trainers can evolve Meltan into Melmetal by gathering 400 Meltan Candy.

For all the details on how to utilize this new connectivity between Pokémon GO and Pokémon HOME, as well as certain restrictions in how it can be used, be sure to check out the Pokémon HOME official site.

Train2Game News Consoles Prices Over The Years

Gamers shelling out £450 for the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles are actually getting a great deal, as gaming systems of yesteryear would have cost as much as £1,200 in today’s money.

The money saving team from NetVoucherCodes.co.uk have looked at how much 33 classic consoles were when they launched and after adjusting the prices for inflation, it turns out that just over 30% of them would have cost more than the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

This means that the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles, which feature the very best in modern gaming technology, are actually great value for money.

One of the first video game systems to be brought into the home was the Atari 2600. In 1977 it would have cost families £199, which translates to a whopping £1246 in today’s money.

Other expensive consoles include the 1990 TurboGrafx 16 which cost the equivalent of £914, and the 1993 Panasonic 3DO that cost a staggering £600 at the time – around £1231 now.

Some of the most budget friendly consoles that the research has highlighted include the Nintendo GameBoy Advance and Nintendo DS, which would have cost just £92 and £195 in today’s money.

TheNetVoucherCodes.co.uk team have used digital Argos catalogues going back to 1977 to find the £RRP of the consoles at launch, and worked out what they’d cost now using Bank of England’s inflation calculator.

A spokesperson forNetVoucherCodes.co.uk said: “After the new consoles were announced, gamers were waiting with bated breath to see just how much of a dent they were going to leave in their pockets.

“For the top-level consoles, families are going to have to shell out at least £500 for the system and a game which sounds extortionate, but looking at how much popular consoles have cost throughout the decades, we’re actually getting a pretty good deal.

“Video game technology is more advanced than ever before but, taking into account the price of inflation, just over 30% of mainstream consoles have technically cost more than these new releases.

“This should be good news for gamers who are keen to get their hands on the new systems. Only question is which one do you choose? It’s worth taking into account the games that will be exclusive to each console, as well as subscription costs like Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus.”
