Train2Game News NEW Pokémon Games

During yesterdays Pokémon Direct presentation, Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, announced Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, the newest additions to the main series of Pokémon role-playing video games.

Developed by GAME FREAK inc., Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be launching late 2019 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch™ system.

The Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games take place in the Galar region. Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments— an idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest, and craggy, snow-covered mountains.

The people and the Pokémon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region.

Fans will have the opportunity to visit various Gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become Champion.

They will not be alone, since the newly discovered Pokémon they choose to be their first partner will be by their side.

“Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are the latest exciting adventures in the Pokémon video game journey that began twenty-three years ago on this day,” said Mr. Ishihara. “Since then, Trainers around the world have discovered new Pokémon, engaged in epic battles, and made countless memories along the way. We look forward to continuing this journey by exploring a stunning new region in the Pokémon universe when the games launch later this year on Nintendo Switch.”

The adventure begins in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield when players choose one of three new Pokémon—Grookey, Scorbunny, or Sobble. Grookey, a Grass-type Chimp Pokémon, is mischievous and full of boundless curiosity. Bursting with energy, Scorbunny, a Fire-type Rabbit Pokémon, is always running about. The stealthy Sobble, a Water-type Water Lizard Pokémon, shoots out attacks as it hides in water.

That’s right people, the games media legend, host of The Miller Report, pro wrestler and all-around badass will be keeping order at what will be the best night of the year if you work in, around or with the UK’s games media.

The Games Media Brit List will once again celebrate the very best in games writing and broadcasting on Thursday, May 16th 2019 at London’s Rix Mix.

Returning after a rip-roaring inaugural 2018 event, the Games Media Brit List awards are open to anyone involved in the games and esports media – specialist consumer journalists, B2B reporters, vloggers, media brands, national media reviewers and more.

Miller said: “It’s a pleasure to host the second-ever Games Media Brit List, especially as there was that one Tweet which said it would never last that long. Just goes to show you can never truly rely on social media.

“I do look forward to seeing the industry’s best (and Chris Bratt) gathered in one place, though, to give much-deserved credit to all those who work so hard and show so much passion for games. You’re only as young as you feel! That doesn’t really tie in. I just thought it would be a nice way to end a quote…”

The Games Media Brit List awards provide a showcase of UK games media talent and will highlight achievements from the previous 12 months – whether for excellent reporting, influencer reach, or creative ingenuity.

The nominations period closes on Friday, February 28th – for a full list of categories and to nominate click here: https://www.gamesmediabritlist.com/enter-the-awards

As well as the awards themselves, the Games Media Brit List will once again bring together the games media community and the wider industry for an evening of entertainment and networking in the buildup to E3, the global industry’s leading trade event in LA.

And for finalists, the Games Media Brit List will once again be completely free to attend.

Train2Game News UK Games Consultancy

Award-winning industry pioneers Philip and Andrew Oliver today announce the launch of their new games consultancy business Game Dragons.

It follows their recent departure as studio heads of Rebellion Warwick.

Game Dragons aims to offer professional, impartial advice across a wide array of games industry business and technical fields but will be focused on delivering consultancy services to scale-up developers, investors and brand holders.

The brothers have been a leading part of the UK games industry since its inception in the early 1980s. Over the following 35+ years, they have established and run three companies, employed over 600 people and been responsible for creating over 160 games across all platforms, selling over 45 million units with a retail value in excess of £1.2bn.

They founded and ran the award-winning Blitz Games Studios for 23 years, and went on to sell their next business, Radiant Worlds, to Rebellion in 2017 for a multi-million-pound sum. They were founder members of trade association TIGA and BGI, and have been regular long-term high-level advisors to a variety of trade bodies, government agencies and business organisations.

Philip Oliver is excited by the new venture, “We’ve always been happy to informally support and advise other people as they build their businesses, and have been lucky enough to receive some of the same support from others, but it’s not always easy to do that when you’re bound by your own clients’ needs and NDAs. We’re now looking forward to being able to share our experiences in a truly independent way, and help people to succeed.”

Andrew Oliver agrees: “We’ve worked with some of the biggest publishing, technology, entertainment and software companies over our years in business, and we’ve seen a lot of things come and go. We know that this industry can be unpredictable and ever-evolving so we feel we’re perfectly placed to help other companies navigate their futures.”

Train2Game News Argos let you step in to Pacific City

To celebrate the highly anticipated launch of Crackdown 3, leading video gaming retailer Argos created a piece of interactive art to transport fans into the game’s Pacific City.

The 3D artwork, by artists 3D Joe and Max, was displayed outside the Old Street Argos store in London on Friday, offering customers the chance to experience the game in the real world.

Commuters and gaming fans were invited to step into the Crackdown 3-inspired optical illusion and explore the game’s Pacific City.

Crackdown 3 fans posted pictures of themselves leaping into the artwork of Pacific City on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #ArgosxCrackdown3 throughout the day and those who showed Argos staff the picture received a small discount on the game.

Peter Wray, Senior Buyer at Argos, said: “We wanted to celebrate the launch of Crackdown 3 in a way that would captivate our customers and allow them to visit the virtual world in real life. We are confident that this experience will transport them into the stunning virtual world and get them even more fired up about grabbing a copy of the game to take home”.

Mike Rapson, Xbox Senior Category Manager at Microsoft, said: “We are delighted that our fans can experience the game in such a creative and interactive way. Crackdown 3 encourages players to destroy parts of the city to boost their abilities, so the artwork, which shows a London street falling into Pacific City, really brings this world to life.

3D Joe and Max are known for their immersive artwork and seemed like the natural choice for such a collaboration. We hope the illusion will dazzle both gamers and commuters alike, as well as demonstrating the vibrant gaming culture that exists in the UK.’

The long-awaited game is available now as a standalone product or with Xbox Game Pass, which provides unlimited access to over 100 Xbox games for one monthly price.

Game Pass customers have access to exclusive discounts and the latest Xbox games on the day they’re released, with new ones added every month.
