Train2Game News Telltale Batman Season 2

Award-winning developer and publisher of digital entertainment Telltale Games, alongside DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, today premiered the inaugural episode of Batman: The Enemy Within, a new five-part game series that continues Telltale’s unique take on the Caped Crusader.

Episode one, ‘The Enigma,’ is now available for download on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The series will become available on Mac later this week, and will come to both iOS and Android-based devices in early October. It will also be available at retailers across North America and Europe this October on a special ‘Season Pass Disc’ for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The disc will include the first episode of the season, as well as download access to all subsequent episodes as they are released through an online connection.

In this latest chapter, both Bruce Wayne and Batman will be forced into precarious new roles. The Riddler has returned to terrorize Gotham City, but his gruesome puzzles merely foreshadow an even greater crisis. With the arrival of a ruthless federal agent and the return of a still nascent Joker, Batman must navigate uneasy alliances while Bruce Wayne undertakes a perilous series of deceptions. Which of Batman’s new allies will you choose to trust? And how deep into the darkness will you let Bruce descend?

This new season will be accessible to both returning fans and newcomers alike, though players’ choices from the first season of Batman: The Telltale Series will optionally carry over into The Enemy Within. This season will also include Telltale’s unique multiplayer ‘Crowd Play’ feature, which allows friends and family to engage with the adventure together by helping to decide the direction of the story from any mobile device with an online connection.

Rendered to look like a living, breathing comic book, Telltale’s vision of Batman features an award-winning cast of talent including Troy Baker, who returns to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, as well as Anthony Ingruber, who will reprise his fresh take on ‘John Doe,’ better known to fans as The Joker.

Batman: The Enemy Within will be a standalone product separate from the first season of Batman: The Telltale Series and is licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and based on DC’s iconic character. Episode one, ‘The Enigma,’ has been rated ‘Mature’ by the ESRB.

Train2Game News eSports affecting PC Hardware sales

Technology management consulting firm Jon Peddie Research has added an eSports hardware analysis to its PC Gaming Hardware report series and forecasts the market to reach $856 million in 2017.

Growing at a blistering 42% CAGR, eSports influenced PC Hardware purchases will reach over $2.2 billion in annual sales by 2020.

Ted Pollak, JPR Senior Video Game Industry Analyst said, “Much of the current eSports research focuses on advertising and event revenue as well as game sales influenced by eSports tournament creation or adoption. Often overlooked is the fact that eSports is increasing hardware revenue in multiple ways. The first and most important factor is that eSports is minting new customers. Their initial system and peripheral purchases often measure over a thousand dollars. Additionally, hardware marketing via team sponsorships are encouraging new and existing gamers to select better parts and accelerate upgrades and rebuilds which also enhances the market.”

From high refresh/resolution displays, to mice and keyboards, to headsets and entire systems, the eSports influenced PC Gaming Hardware market comes in many forms.

Jon Peddie, President of JPR noted, “Our analysis not only measures eSports influence across hardware segments, but it drills down to pricing tiers within each segment and does this for all major geographic regions globally. If one adds our data to even the most conservative advertising, software, and event revenue, the market has already breached $1.5 billion. eSports is about and for the gaming community, not just who’s selling ads, or running conferences.”

Pricing and Availability

The Worldwide PC Gaming Hardware Market report series by Jon Peddie Research covers 33 countries, notebooks, desktops, DIY, and accessories, comes in three versions: High-End, Mid-Range, and Entry-Level, with each version selling for $7,500 and the set of three for $15,000. JPR also offers annual subscriptions, consulting and custom analysis, and discounted packages across multiple services.

Pocket Sized Hands, A VR/AR/MR startup based in Dundee, will be traveling out to Seattle to represent the UK in Microsoft Imagine cup world finals with a chance to win a prize worth over $200,000 with their game Honeypot Espionage.

Pocket Sized Hands is the only Scottish team left in the competition and one of only two computer games in the final stage of the competition.

The Imagine Cup is an annual competition that empowers the next generation of student developers and aspiring entrepreneurs from across the globe, to use their creativity, passion and knowledge to create applications that shape how we live, work and play.

Every year tens of thousands of students from across the globe compete for cash, travel and prizes and for the honor of taking home the Imagine Cup.

Which puts Pocket Sized Hands, the first team to represent Abertay University at the world finals, against prestigious Universities, including the University of Oxford, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Tokyo.

Alan Yeats, CTO of Pocket Sized Hands said: “This is an amazing opportunity to represent games in Scotland at an international level. We are really excited to be a part of whole competition and hope this can help further and grow Pocket Sized Hands in the coming years.”

Honeypot Espionage is an online Virtual Reality multiplayer shooter, focused on stealth combat, in which you are put against other Spies in a combat arena. The last man standing wins. As a Spy, you are completely invisible, but you will begin to materialize if you move, fire a weapon or set a trap. If you don’t want killed, stay still. Think Predator meets SuperHot. The slower you move in real life the harder you are to see. You can set traps and decoys to trick other players into revealing their location to try to come out on top. Multiple game modes allow you to fight the way you want. Team up with others to break into the High Security Government buildings to steal classified documents. Guard the VIP and keep them hidden from potential assassins. Classic Death match where you use your abilities to search out others to get the first and last kills. Stay hidden, only move to Kill.

Train2Game News The Minds Behind the Games Interviews with Cult and Classic Game Developers

Who wrote “Romeo & Juliet? Who first sang “Thriller”? Who played Captain America in the last Avengers flick? All of these questions are basic pop culture knowledge that everyone, regardless of their geekdom, knows. But who are the minds behind some of the most influential video games of all-time? Don’t know, right? Don’t use Google, either!

But here’s the bigger question: Why aren’t their names enshrined in our memories, too? Why aren’t these men and women’s names just as synonymous in pop culture lore as those in music, film and literature?
“The Minds Behind the Games: Interviews with Cult and Classic Game Developers” is the first video game book of its kind to get access to some of the most iconic and unique video game developers from the past 40 years, from the Atari 2600 to the PlayStation 4 and even failed consoles the likes of the Ouya and NEMO.

Didn’t know those consoles existed? It’s just another reason to read this behind the scenes look at the industry, which also features all-new exclusive interviews with everyone from Yars’ Revenge creator Howard Scott Warshaw to NBA Jam mastermind Mark Turmell and Mortal Combat co-creator John Tobias.

Written by award-winning journalist and educator Patrick Hickey Jr., the book contains profiles of 36 of the coolest video games ever created.

“We know so much about video games, but we know so little about the amazing people that made them,” Hickey said. “That was the main reason I decided to write this book. Imagine 36 episodes of VH1’s Behind the Music. That’s what this book is- an unaltered, behind-the-scenes look at some of the coolest, infamous and unique games ever made.”

Seeing a problem that desperately needed to fixed, Hickey reached out to some of the most iconic video game developers David Crane (Pitfall), Garry Kitchen (Donkey Kong) and Rob Fulop (Night Trap, Missile Command) and many more- the end result was a passion project that would finally give the greatest minds in video games their due.

“We all carry such fond nostalgia for the things that delighted us in our younger years,” Fulop said. “This lack of portability to the future is not true with the written work, with a song, a television show, or a movie. One can read Tom Sawyer as a kid, and your kid can read the exact same book. Or see the Wizard of Oz, my daughter is just as frightened by the Wicked Witch of the West as I was 50 years ago. I Love Lucy is just as funny as when my parents enjoyed it 50 plus years ago. And my daughter can still enjoy all of these things in their original form.  Yet she can’t play Dogz. At least not without a serious amount of effort on my part. And that’s just sort of sad, the fact that interactive entertainment is linked to a specific technology, which is always obsoleting itself, remains an often overlooked black mark in the development of the entire genre of interactive games.”

However, while classic developers have their say in the book, developers from the modern era were thrilled to be a part of the project as well.

“It’s great to be part of a book that taps into such a varied history of gaming. Some of these games have been a direct influence on me and can be used to map my years growing up in life.” -Mike Skupa, Developer Bully, Sleeping Dogs

Additional Praise for ‘The Minds Behind the Games’:

“Fantastic. One-part serious journalism and another part a love letter to the gaming industry.”-Anthony Frisina, Author, The Regulator

“This book will make your inner gamer do the time 8-32-bit warp again and again.”-Chris Butera, Editor-In-Chief, Bonesaw Online Magazine, former WWE.com writer

“NHLPA 93 was the first game I owned for the Sega Genesis and I played it nonstop for a month. I truly believe my favorite player as a kid was Jeremy Roenick simply because of this game. Patrick does a terrific job encapsulating the history, emotion and drama of the early days of this series.” –Arda Ocal, MSG Networks

“From arcade rats to indie developers, Hickey gives an intimate look at the personalities behind gaming with the passion of a fanboy and the attention of a scholar.” – Cesar R. Bustamante Jr., Digital Producer and Book Reviewer, New York Daily News

I love the WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game chapter, which perfectly captures the aura surrounding that title — its development and release during such a transitionary phase for Wrestling — and how it smartly serves as a fun and exemplary reminder of the game’s uniqueness in being a fighting game at heart, hybridized … and stylized with mystical, whimsical gimmick-specific elements effectively creating a “game for everyone,” during a time when that was an impossible task.- Extreme Championship Wrestling Legend Joel Gertner

“The Minds Behind the Games: Interviews with Cult and Classic Game Developers” is currently scheduled for a late 2017/early 2018 release.
