Train2Game News Man vs Snake Documentary

ManVsSnakeMAN VS SNAKE: The Long and Twisted Tale of Nibbler, the acclaimed documentary chronicling one man’s journey to reclaim his video game legacy, has been picked up for distribution by leading independent film and documentary publisher FilmBuff.

MAN VS SNAKE, which took home ‘Best Documentary Film’ at Fantastic Fest 2015 and Calgary Underground Film Festival 2016, is a window into the hyper-insular subculture of competitive gaming: the ultimate tale of man vs technology – or, in this instance, man vs old-school arcade cabinet. The film will be released across all On Demand platforms, including iTunes, Steam, Google Play, XBox, Playstation, Amazon, and Vudu, as well as select theater showings across the United States.

If you ever played the game “Snake” on your early model Nokia cellphone, then you’re familiar with “Nibbler,” the original “snake” game. MAN VS SNAKE tells the story of Tim McVey who, in 1984, on a single quarter (and over 44 hours of non-stop play) was the first person in history to score one billion points on a video game. 25 years later, rumors of a higher score surface online, attributed to Italian kickboxing champion Enrico Zanetti. This calls into question everything Tim McVey has believed for decades and forces him to make a decision: either set a new world record, or risk losing his legacy forever. He’ll have to overcome psychological exhaustion and the limits of his physical condition – not to mention a challenge from one of the most notorious men in competitive gaming.

Featuring cameos from competitive arcade gamer and entrepreneur Billy Mitchell, and businessman, historian, and founder of Twin Galaxies, Walter Day, Jr., MAN VS SNAKE is a quirky, comical, and frequently inspiring emotional journey created by Battlestar Galactica editors and professional geeks, Andrew Seklir and Tim Kinzy. The project was originally revealed in August of 2013 on Kickstarter, where it raised a total of $61,440 USD from several hundred backers.

“MAN VS SNAKE seems like it should be unrelatable – I mean, I couldn’t play an arcade game for four hours, much less 44,” said Andrew Seklir, Producer, Director and Film Editor. “But McVey embodies so much of what I love about this story – a certain specificity of obsession; dogged determination to leave a legacy; ceaseless tenacity in the face of a seemingly insurmountable goal. It’s been a trip following him through his truly weird journey, and I’m thrilled to get to share his remarkable story with the world.”

“Andrew and Tim have done something special here,” said FilmBuff’s Jake Hanly. “Tim McVey is a person you can’t help but root for, and they turned his story into a movie you can’t help but root for.”

Train2game News Warhammer 4k Tactical Objectives App Update

homescreenDerp Studios release 2.0 update to Warhammer 40,000: Tactical Objectives App.

Studio with former Train2Game students release major update to its Games Workshop licenced app.

Our friends at Derp Studios are releasing a major update to its Warhammer 40,000 tactical objectives app. Building on its already successful first release and taking part in the wider Games Workshop ‘Digital Assault’ and Warhammer Fest, which take place this weekend.

The update includes New Decks for the Tau Empire, Farsight Enclaves, Cadia, Raven Guard and Chaos Daemons. The update also includes some major new features: Users now have the ability to draw a card without advancing the turn counter, users may now manually add and subtract victory points from their total score and all purchased tactical objective cards are now downloaded from a server which has reduced the core app size significantly.

The latest update went live on Monday 9th May 2016 on both the Apple and Google Play app stores. To promote the release of the 2.0 update Derp are participating in Games Workshops’ “Digital Assault” on the Apple App store on 12th-19th May 2016. The Warhammer 40,000: Tactical Objectives App AND all other Games Workshop Products are 50% off (including in app purchases).

The event coincides and celebrates Warhammer Fest, in which Derp Studios will be attending at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, UK on the 14th and 15th May.

Chris Ledger, Derp Studios: ‘We’re delighted to launch 2.0. It’s been a long time coming, the community suggested some things and Games Workshop had released some new decks as well which we wanted to ship.’

‘The release of the original app was received really well. I know it can do a lot better though. Raising awareness of the app is the most challenging part. The app’s been doing fine, people are enjoying the convenience of it and should do even more with the latest update.’

‘It’s a nice feeling when people enjoy something you’ve designed. It’s nice in general to see a project come to fruition, especially a project that is well received. The UK, USA and Canada are the ones mostly buying it. We’ve had the odd download from the Far East which is pretty exciting. Even though Games Workshop is a UK company, their franchises are known worldwide.’

‘Most people either play at home or at their local gaming club or Games Workshop store. However we’ve been asked whether the app will be compatible for tournaments (which are extremely popular in the USA).’

‘Games Workshop have been fab, they’re very supportive and help out wherever they possibly can. Massive shout out to the licensing team, they’re the ones working with developers and publishers of all sizes.’

‘The previous version took up a lot of storage space on device. We’ve managed to fix that so IAP’s are purchased and then downloaded as opposed to them all being on the app behind a paywall. So we’ve resolved that issue.’

Train2game Official Dan Bilzerian Game

image

We would like to present to you SAVE DAN – THE OFFICIAL DAN BILZERIAN GAME, inspired by Dan’s unique lifestyle.

Bon vivan, millionaire and poker player Dan Bilzerian has been attacked in the cyber world by sexy zombies! These villains want him as much as the long-legged beauties in real life, but unlike the cuddly girls Dan is surrounded with at all times, these creatures are bloodthirsty. Only you can help him out! Avoid and gun down bloodthirsty zombies! Choose from an array of destructive weaponry and put them to use in locations throughout America! When you play Save Dan, the unbelievably funny and original free-to-play game for iOS and Android developed by Novasoft, you can expect to hold your breath for action packed moments!

Dan himself was involved in the development of the game. He gave very valuable advice on various weapon characteristics, as well as guidance on zombie modeling and animations.

“Originally the concept started out as a shooting app with a nice variety of weapons shooting inanimate targets in a variety of environments.  I suggested making it more interesting by having a variety of zombie chicks chasing me to rip my clothes off and “abuse” me.  The player’s objective is simply to save my ass!  It kinda took off from there with some cool additional features.”, said Dan commenting the launching of the game.

Your mission is to gun down these zombies before they get Dan, who has to activate signal beacons so you both get a chance to carry out the objective, which is to escape the zombie madness and survive. Time is of the essence, so you better watch out! If you fail to save him, the undead will throw themselves at him and tear him to pieces!

Yogscast, the UK’s leading games video specialist, is pleased to announce the forthcoming launch of TAPP, a new YouTube channel dedicated to all things mobile gaming.

TAPP is being created by Yogscast’s in-house production team and will be fronted by the firm’s star personalities including Kim, Duncan, Martyn and Hannah and will produce regular video entertainment focussed on iOS and Android gaming.

The TAPP launch is in partnership with IPC Ventures, who are using the channel to promote their Gaming Top Talent competition to find the best mobile gaming devs in the world, and reward them with prizes worth over $1M.

TAPP will launch with a range of programming covering the latest games being released and regular features on 3 May.

“We’re really excited to be launching TAPP, which we’re confident will quickly become the leading channel for iOS and Android gaming on YouTube,” said Mark Turpin, CEO of Yogscast.

“We all play games on our phones and tablets as well as PCs and consoles and it’s always been a frustration that it’s hard to find great videos that will help us find new games or enjoy the ones we’re already playing. I’m also delighted to have a legitimate reason to be able to expense all my gem purchases in Clash of Clans.”
“Gaming Top Talent is a great partnership for us as it means we’ll also be able to discover the best new mobile games while they’re still in development – and with the prizes on offer we know there will be both strong competition and high quality games being produced,” Turpin added.

“Through our Gaming Top Talent initiative we are taking on the challenge of finding the best mobile games being made and sharing them with the world”, said Shelley Lau, Managing Partner at IPC Ventures, “which is why we are excited to partner with Yogscast, a pioneer in the games video industry with a dedicated, game-loving fanbase.”

More details about TAPP and the initiative with Gaming Top Talent and other partners will be released over the next few weeks.

Train2game News Pocket Gamer Awards 2016

image

Steel Media, publisher of Pocket Gamer, feels as sprightly as an Irish Setter at finally being able to reveal the winners of the seventh edition of the Pocket Gamer Awards.

A record-shattering number of votes by PG readers this year has determined the final standings, with the Square Enix Montreal-developed Lara Croft GO dominating by claiming the Android Game of the Year, Overall Game of the Year, and Best Developer awards.

Meanwhile, celebrated puzzler The Room Three secured iOS Game of the Year, with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Super Meat Boy grabbing the equivalent honors for 3DS and PS Vita, respectively.

And there was more handheld recognition in the Best Publisher category, with Nintendo claiming the award for an impressive third year in a row (and fourth time overall).

In addition to the above awards, which focused on games released during 2015, this year’s edition also featured the ‘Pocket Gamer Legends’ categories. Designed to coincide with Pocket Gamer’s 10-year anniversary in March, the three PG Legends awards celebrate the games, developers, and publishers that the PG team feels have most impressed from the past decade.

Some enthusiastic and very close voting eventually saw Supercell and Gameloft emerge as PG Legends Best Developer and Publisher, respectively, with readers evidently keen to reward the considerable contribution both companies have made to mobile gaming over the past few years.

When it came to the PG Legends Best Game, the fight proved even tighter. But once the votes were cast it was the critically acclaimed (and Apple Game of the Year 2013) Ridiculous Fishing from admired indie studio Vlambeer which reeled in the distinguished honour of being named the finest mobile gaming experience of the decade.

To further mark the special occasion, the PG Awards include for the first time runners-up positions in all categories. They, along with the deserved winners, can be viewed at http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/pgawards2016

Train2game News MobiStick

image

Designed by the brazilian indie developers from Vortex Game Studios, the mobiSTICK is a mobile app that transform your mobile device into a fully customised joystick.

The first concept is from 2011, with an idea of using any mobile devices not just as input device, but as a support device too, with information about characters, maps and more… Something like what we have today on Wii U.

The research started in 2013, where lots of tests were created to develop a very nice and comfortable virtual gamepad using all that the device has to offer, like touchscreen, camera and accelerometer.

After 3 years of research the mobiSTICK, a virtual and fully customisable joystick is available for your smart device, but not just that, it is a joystick where the player can modify the entire experience from the app as the user wants!

In some tests, a template was built where the player is able to play some platform games using just one hand, creating lots of possibilities to adapt the app to include people with some motor difficulty back to games!

The mobiSTICK Alpha can be downloaded on the official website and very soon will go out on an Indiegogo campaign. Everyone can support the project on Thunderclap for free.
