Train2Game News AppGameKit HTML5

AppGameKitThe Game Creators today launched the AppGameKit HTML5 version – a significant release which adds yet another dimension to the already successful development engine.

Lee Bamber, CEO of The Game Creators, said, “HTML5 is the latest version of Hypertext Markup Language, the code that describes how web pages look and operate. More crucially, it’s the first version which fully supports native execution of 3D games content, which means no more plugins to install. With the new version of AppGameKit, you can now export your creations directly to HTML5 compatible files which can be run locally or uploaded to a server, allowing your users to play your apps and games instantly through their browser.

Thanks to the WebGL, a component of HTML5 technology, you can even run 3D games under hardware acceleration and optionally switch to full screen to create a smooth immersive experience for everyone.”

The Game Creators Development Director, Rick Vanner, said “Combined with a host of new commands, functional tweaks and bug fixes, version 2.0.19 continues to expand the AppGameKit universe with the capabilities you need to create awesome applications across multiple platforms.”

Towerbots (http://www.appgamekit.com/HTML5/Towerbots/Towerbots.html ) is a great example of an AppGameKit HTML5 game, produced by Blendman (www.dracaena-studio.com ).

The Game Creators used AppGameKit to develop Driving Test Success Theory, Hazard Perception and Highway Code apps for UK publisher Focus Multimedia, deploying them onto the App Store, Google Play, Amazon, Mac Store and Blackberry World – all from AppGameKit’s executable code. These Driving Test Success apps are now one of the UK’s #1 ‘Learning to Drive’ apps.

Train2Game News Student Studio lands lucrative contract

LDP OnlineAppatier Limited has begun a project for a training provider; creating a Pizzeria to teach employees about ‘Kaizan’

John Esslemont and his team are designing a game for online training provider LDP-Online as part of a paid contract. The art of Japanese organisation is combining with the modern phenomenon of videogames (and pizza), as Appatier Limited design an app to teach employees about management. John also used the opportunity to say he supports Train2Game and the work it does for students.

The team is currently working on a pizza game that teaches people about ‘Kaizan’ which is Japanese for organisation. The educational game lets people learn about management and perfect running a team. It sounds simple but designing a game where multiple actions have to time together to the second, has been a challenge. It’s the first game of its kind that John is aware of, but he expects lots more in the future.

John has had a good experience with Train2Game and loves the staff; he learnt lots about games development and self-motivation. Says some students don’t get the most out of Train2Game and they are to blame for not applying themselves. That many students have gone on to setup indie studios and work at AAA Developers. Extremely appreciative of the staff at Train2Game and grateful to them for getting him where he is today.

John is using all his own project management skills to get the job done, and working with his team on the project. The job came through his Train2Game network of contacts. His advice to other students looking to get professional contracts is get out there and ‘work your butt off.’

John Esslemont, Director, Appatier Limited: ‘The experience was good with Train2Game and the staff that work for them are amazing! With Train2Game I learnt a lot of aspects of game development through the course and other students along with a load of self-study which is essential to learning in any field.’

‘I see some people feeling disgruntled with Train2Game that they haven’t learnt anything or haven’t progressed and feel the need to blame Train2Game. That is complete rubbish, I know a tonne of students who are now into AAA games, or indie games studios, it all takes self-discipline to get anywhere in this field. Sorry just felt like I needed to get that in there.’

‘Without train2Game and I sincerely mean this, I doubt I would be where I am, the staff there I have got to know over the past couple years have been amazing with me, especially Harry & Eric, those guys are the boyo’s.’

‘Right now we are working on a restaurant style game that is designed to help people learn Kaizan, which is a Japanese term for organisation essentially. The client is LDP-Online. It will but will be available via LDP-Online and the App Stores. We hope this will be the first of many projects.’

‘The point of the game is for you to think like a manager, you must position your staff and give them jobs to complete. The app will be used for training purposes on the Kaizan principle.

‘If your staff do a terrible job that is of course down to you, and you must learn how to adapt to this fast to get your staff in a rhythm, which will in turn generate you more profit and help you complete the game. It is in terms of thought a small game, turns out all the inner workings like timings, staff jobs, etc are a little more complicated than we first thought.’

‘The job came through a contact of Train2Game, part of the training providers network. As a student they were aware of me and then I got put forward for the job, and was lucky enough to get it. I haven’t seen very many of games like this, mostly because I haven’t searched for them, but I 100% believe that this sort of thing will grow exponentially in the training markets.’

‘The biggest thing I feel that is helping me personally is my ability to manage a team and understand the whole process while being involved in every aspect of the game’s design and development. I am a programmer, but also project manager along with the director so I have to organise everything and make sure everyone is working to deadlines and plans, if they are not that needs to be changed or adapted to the current situation.’

‘I’ve not worked on anything like this at all, in fact it was our first 2D game so we had to learn a lot of the basics and setups to get this right. Once you feel comfortable making games you tend to throw yourself into it really. It has gone really good up to now, some hiccups but nothing serious which is always good.’

‘The timings and how everything is structured has been difficult, the game is designed in such a way that the timings need to be near perfect for it to work. For example is a guy is walking from point A to point B but he needs to take 7 seconds to arrive there, we then need to dynamically change his speed so that it only takes him 7 seconds to get there. Simple math but lots of things like this piling up and all intertwining can become a bit of a brain dead moment.’

‘My advice for other students looking for their first paying client: Put yourself out there; go to the Unity forums, Unreal forums, UpWork and more. Honestly apply for everything within your skill set or what you think you can do. Do not ever be put off by someone asking for something you don’t know what to do right now as that is part of learning. So if you see a job you like the look off and have say a basic understanding of what needs to be done and how you would roughly do it, then go for it!’

‘Once you have your client, work your butt off for them, but also remember to not let them think they own you, define what your work will involve and work to what you both agreed. If they want changes, that is fine, if they want more features or something similar charge them for your time!’

‘I learnt that the hard way!’

Train2Game News Playkey

PlaykeyPlaykey has just been launched in the UK in April 2016 (beta). Playkey caters for gamers who enjoy playing hardcore MMO and top-rated games, but have low-end PCs and laptops.

With the Playkey cloud gaming service, any gamer can instantly launch the latest, top-rated blockbusters such as GTA V, Witcher 3 or Fallout 4, even if their hardware is old and slow.

The Playkey cloud gaming service uses video streaming technology similar to the Onlive and Gaikai services. There are over 20 top-rated games in the Playkey catalogue, including Rise of the Tomb Raider, GTA V, Fallout 4, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, The Witcher 3, Far Cry 4, MMOs by Wargaming, Might & Magic Heroes VII, The Crew, and others. Playkey collaborates directly with major game publishers such as Ubisoft, Codemasters, Capcom, and Sega, as well as local official distributors. Playkey updates its catalogue regularly on a monthly basis.

Playkey launches all games on a network of powerful gaming servers. That’s why the user’s PC configuration is irrelevant. The end user receives a high quality video stream and controls the game in real-time. Even a 5 Mbps Internet connection will be enough for a good gaming experience.

Playkey’s infrastructure is mostly based in Europe. The service is powered by a proprietary video encoding and streaming technology which guarantees top notch graphics and high processing speed. Playkey supports 1080p Full HD and 720p HD Ready resolutions. The Playkey desktop client is available for Windows and MacOS. Please note that the service may not work properly if accessed outside of the UK.

Playkey offers its customers a subscription-based sales model. Train2Game News WESA Founded

WESAThe foundation of the World Esports Association (WESA) has been announced today, as the result of joint efforts between industry-leading professional esports teams and ESL, the world’s largest esports company.

Based on similar traditional sports associations, WESA is an open and inclusive organization that will further professionalize esports by introducing elements of player representation, standardized regulations, and revenue sharing for teams. WESA will seek to create predictable schedules for fans, players, organizers and broadcasters, and for the first time bring all stakeholders to the discussion table. The formation of WESA concludes over a year of negotiation between many teams and organizers, and it aims to bring much needed structure to a crowded esports ecosystem. The ESL Pro League for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be the first professional esports competition that will be played under WESA regulations.

A total of eight teams have contributed to the formation of WESA, with founding teams including some of the world’s most well-known multi-gaming brands: Fnatic, Natus Vincere, EnVyUs, Virtus.Pro, G2 Esports, Faze, mousesports and Ninjas in Pyjamas. WESA aims to add more members and is continuing talks with a number of organizations in Europe and North America.

“We’ve established Fnatic across numerous games over the past twelve years, and we welcome an organization like WESA to help speak to the interests of teams and players,” said Wouter Sleijffers, CEO of Team Fnatic. Mike Rufail, Managing Director of Team EnVyUs continued: “Our team has worked hard with organizers, like ESL, in the past to provide feedback and ensure a positive evolution for the events specifically and the industry. Team EnVyUs players welcome both the challenge and responsibility that WESA brings with it.”

On the topic of responsibility, Natus Vincere Team Owner Alexander Kokhanovskyy, said: “We welcome the inclusion that WESA offers in the decision-making process for competitions like the ESL CS:GO Pro League. The partnership, if I can call it that, goes one step further as well: Natus Vincere, along with all WESA teams, share in the profits when it comes to the WESA and their sanctioned events. That’s a huge step for the industry.” Owner and CEO of FaZe Clan, Thomas Oliveira, echoed the sentiment: “The incentive was certainly there to get involved in WESA. Not just financially, but intrinsically: this is a sign of the industry recognizing the value and role that teams play. We look forward to working with WESA to make a difference in the scene.”

As an organization promoting, supporting and strengthening players’ roles in building leagues, WESA will be the first institution to feature an operative Player Council. The player-elected Council will advocate on behalf of the pro gamers in relation to league policies, rulesets, player transfers and more, empowering players when it comes to decision-making in regards to tournaments operated under WESA regulations. By bringing players to the discussion table, the Council will give them important insight into the balances of league decision making as well as the formation and adjustment of rules which directly affect player careers.

“WESA offers many opportunities to the Member Teams and their Players, but we’re most excited about the esports’s first official player representative finally becoming a reality” said Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas, Player for Team Virtus.Pro. “For the first time in the history of esports, players will come together to organize themselves, and that will enable all of us to get a real say in decisions that directly influence us. With a Player Council sitting at the table with the rest of the decision makers, we’re going to continue improve the tournament and league organization”.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time to be a part of the esports industry, and its rapid growth in just a few years has made it very clear: there’s growing and more pressing need to structurize it, both on the tournament organizer’s side as well as on the players’ side” said Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund of team Ninjas in Pyjamas. “WESA will offer us a platform to do just that – organize our work and careers, build a network of safety, and offer a solution to business and legal disputes.”

WESA teams will participate in offline events based on their scheduling and standards developed through the Association. Additionally, WESA teams will participate in other leagues, whose schedules have been balanced prior to today’s announcement with ESL Pro League.

“The formation of WESA is a critical milestone on our way to grow esports globally, and we’re incredibly excited to work with some of the world’s best professional teams” said Ralf Reichert, Managing Director at ESL. “Their continuous support to the formation and structuring of the Association only further cemented our belief that esports is well on its way to become the leading source of entertainment of gaming fans around the world.”

The Player Council will work alongside WESA representatives and in keeping with the League Commissioner. Pietro Fringuelli will take on the role of the Interim League Commissioner, bringing a wealth of experience from the sports industry, including expertise gained during his time as advisor for some of the biggest sports organizations in Europe.

“I’m incredibly honored and excited to join the World Esports Association today, and am looking forward to bringing my years of experience from traditional sports into the world of electronic sports” said Pietro Fringuelli, Interim WESA League Commissioner. “The formation of WESA, and the growth of the Association in the coming years, will be the critical performance indicators for the entire esports industry – and a real game changer for its every stakeholder.”
