Train2Game News Ubisoft at EGX 2015

Ubisoft have announced three big games will be playable at the UKs biggest gaming expo in September.

EGX, the UK’s biggest video games event, today announced that Ubisoft titles Tom Clancy’s The Division, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will all be playable at EGX this September 24-27, including a UK first public hands-on for Tom Clancy’s The Division.

In Tom Clancy’s The Division, a devastating pandemic sweeps through New York City on Black Friday, and one by one, basic services fail. In only days, without food or water, society collapses into chaos. The Division, an autonomous unit of tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives among us, these agents are trained to operate independently in order to save society.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate takes the series to a stunning recreation of Nineteenth Century Victorian London at the height of the Industrial Revolution, complete with underground criminal elements and the ongoing struggle between the common poor and rich elite. New Assassins, twins Jacob and Evie Frye, make it their mission to jump in and redress the balance.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege’s take on the tactical shooter has been wowing gamers worldwide since its announcement at E3 2014. This hyper-intense first-person shooter features explosive close quarters combat, high lethality, tactics and team play; all within a highly detailed, fully-destructible environment.

Louise Marchant, Group Marketing Manager at Ubisoft said, “We’re really pleased to be bringing three of our biggest games to EGX in the form of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Rainbow Six Siege and The Division. The show continues to go from strength-to-strength and we’re looking forward to seeing UK gamers get up-close and personal with the first-ever London-based Assassin’s Creed, the long-awaited return of Rainbow Six and the UK premiere of The Division”.

“Ubisoft fans are in for a treat at EGX as three upcoming heavyweight games from the publisher will be playable on the show floor”, said David Lilley, Managing Director of Gamer Events. “Visitors to EGX will have yet more bragging rights as they’ll get their hands on Ubisoft’s The Division before all their mates. Unikrn, a gaming and eSports company bringing safe and legal wagering to competitive videogame matches and tournaments around the world, is launching version 2.0 of its platform,

Unikrn 2.0 isn’t just a visual overhaul, however.  Along with all the new buttons, Unikrn has added a whole slew of content (articles, interviews, insights, tips, etc.) and new betting options!

In addition to their traditional match and tournament betting, it now offers the following bets:

Multi Bets :
Multi bets pay out based on the results of multiple events.  On Unikrn 2.0, users can now create a multi bet that pays out if every team they have selected wins.  Multi bets can greatly increase the payout of betting on favorite teams, even if they individually have low odds.

Exotics :
Users will be able to bet not just on the result of a match, but on what happens within those matches.  In the coming days and weeks, Unikrn will start to offer odds on:  “First Dragon/Baron” (League of Legends), “First Blood” (all games), “Highest Currency” (all games), “Knife Kills” (Counter Strike: Global Offensive) and many more in-game events.

Handicaps :
Low odds on a favorite team?  Bet with a handicap to increase the payout!  If a user’s favorite team is on a big win streak, they can now handicap them to get better odds.  In best of 3s or more, users will be able to bet as if the team with low odds has already lost the first round, significantly increasing the odds (and payout) if they manage to win the remaining matches.

To celebrate the new version of their platform, Unikrn is proud to announce a new partnership with mousesports, one of the world’s most decorated professional gaming teams.

The deal covers the CS:GO section of the mousesports brand, and together, mousesports and Unikrn will offer eSports fans an even more exciting look into the world of pro gaming, pro gamers and the games they play.  For more info on the announcement, please see

Train2Game News Gamer Network adds Mod and Indie Databases

Gamer Network, the world’s leading network of independent video games websites and producer of the UK’s premiere video games events, today announced that immensely popular developer-driven database sites Mod DB and Indie DB are joining the network.
Starting 13 years ago in response to a need to organise the fledgling modding community, Mod DB is the world’s leading modding website – with over 29 million monthly pageviews – dedicated to supporting the independent development of mods, add-ons and downloadable content (DLC). As the site puts it, the aim of Mod DB is to “unite developers, players and their ideas, empowering them to shape the games we play”.

With increasing numbers of mod developers adding profiles to Mod DB to promote their indie games, Indie DB was created to provide a home for the growing indie game community. As the site puts it, the aim of Indie DB is to “connect independent developers of games with players, from the day they start developing their game to the day they release it”.

Both sites were established on the premise of user-generated content, with the content creators themselves being the driving force behind updates. On Indie DB, for example, developers have control of the site, allowing them to share details and behind the scenes insight about the games they are creating, in the form of news, images, videos and downloads. Almost all the site’s content is posted by the games’ creators. Perfectly complementing the editorial-based content of the rest of the network, Mod DB and Indie DB’s mission to empower developers to submit content has established two continuously growing and highly loyal communities.

The addition of Indie DB to the Gamer Network family bolsters the already world-class indie support the company provides. Gamers can stay up-to-date with indie games across the network of editorial sites – including – then play the games at the indie-focussed EGX Rezzed event in the spring, plus the huge indie area of EGX in the autumn. In addition, Gamer Network’s in-house creative agency Gamer Creative and crowdfunded collector’s edition arm Gamer’s Edition heavily support independent developers by promoting their brands through advertising creative and merchandise.

“As a loyal reader of and, I’ve long admired Gamer Network’s close relationship with gamers and developers”. Said Scott Reismanis, founder of Mod DB and Indie DB. “We’ve always worked hard to bridge that gap, and give creators a voice and community they can share their work on. This partnership allows us to focus on that aim, whilst working with a network that understands the needs of developers of all sizes”.

Rupert Loman, CEO of Gamer Network, added, “We’ve been fans of Mod DB and Indie DB for a long time so we’re delighted to welcome them to the Gamer Network family. The PC, indie and modding communities are at the forefront of our industry and as a company we’re committed to supporting their growth – we can’t wait to help develop the websites in partnership with Scott over the coming years”.

Train2Game News Big Data VR Challenge winner

The winner of the Big Data VR challenge has been announced after they aided thousands in Bristol using virtual reality technology.

Epic Games, in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust, a biomedical research charity based in London, has concluded the Big Data VR Challenge, awarding $20,000 to LumaPie.

This international team created a VR visualization of study results of environmental and genetic factors that have shaped the development the lives of more than 14,000 residents of the city of Bristol. The Big Data VR Challenge brought together five teams over four months, resulting in an amazing combination of science and 3D design in virtual space, powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4.

“We thank all of the developers and researchers who dedicated their time and expertise to this competition,” said Epic Games Founder and CEO Tim Sweeney. “This combination of hard science with the type of 3D development normally seen in the video game world will hopefully inspire new ways for visualization of data to evolve as VR becomes a part of our everyday life”

The Big Data VR Challenge brought together a large group of international developers and researchers for an incredible competition, using Unreal Engine 4 to unlock new ways to manipulate and interrogate the huge data sets that are now generated by many scientific studies. The goal was to give researchers the unique ability to manage, manipulate and effectively present huge amounts of data in real time, a problem that has been confounding the science community for years. While the Big Data VR Challenge has concluded, this effort marks the beginning of scientific advances that will continue with collaborations between Unreal Engine developers and leading-edge researchers.

“All the teams created solutions that address the hurdles of analyzing large data sets in new and ingenious ways,” said Mike Gamble, European Territory Manager, Epic Games. “LumaPie in particular have built a brilliant VR application that solves the challenge. They kicked it into the goal.”

LumaPie is made up of the creative studio Masters of Pie and 3D software development consultancy Lumacode. For ALSPAC Children of the 90s data, the team successfully created a fully functional, scalable VR visualization for the world-leading study, exploiting the advantages of both Unreal Engine 4 and VR to create an immersive environment built from the data itself. Within their end-to-end solution, users have full control with the VR space, intuitively interacting with and manipulating the data to aid research, whether working alone or with several others via multi-user support.

“LumaPie has delivered an interactive simulation with tangible outputs that can be applied and adapted to other studies as well. The results of this challenge are what we were hoping for and so much more,” said Iain Dodgeon, Creative Partnerships Manager at Wellcome Trust.

Additional research initiatives addressed by the four-month competition include the Casebooks Project, which examined 80,000 medical records taken four centuries ago, and genome browsers, by way of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. The other teams and projects included:

·         HammerheadVR on genome browsers — Hammerhead’s project compared fruit fly and human DNA, overlaying genomes in VR to show how the same genes across the two species can be mapped to discover which genetic markers potentially cause cancer

·         Skip the Intro on the Casebooks Project — Skip the Intro created a calming and colourful solution for the Casebooks Project, guiding the user through interactive tunnels of light that illuminate connections and patterns.

·         Pi and Power on genome browsers — Pi and Power presented an intuitive way to interrogate genomics data through the use of head tracking, using motion to produce colourful patterns that correspond to variations of genetic parameters.

·         Opaque Multimedia on ALSPAC Children of the 90s — Opaque Multimedia built a shared, collaborative environment utilising virtual librarians (or “data buddies”) to analyze data from the Children of the 90s genetics study.
