Train2Game News British Esports partners with Enemy of Boredom Academy


The British Esports Association has entered into a partnership with the Enemy of Boredom Esports (EOB) Academy, a series of workshops for young people backed by the Prince’s Trust.

The EOB Esports Academy offers education programmes for 14-30 year olds, which are designed to help young people and unemployed people learn new skills, access new opportunities and find work.

The courses aim to build confidence and provide a qualification. They promote teamwork and communication skills through League of Legends, and also include game design, journalism, 3D printing, virtual reality and social media skills.

Each workshop or course is hosted by WUWO Media, an agency which has been designing educational programmes for the creative industries since 2012.

EOB Esports Academy Watford has been in operation since May 2017, while the London Academy opened in September 2017. Another academy will launch in Birmingham in 2018.

Enemy of Boredom is also planning on hosting after-school clubs for younger pupils as well as holiday clubs. In addition, it’s running a one-week game design course in Peterborough in October, including Rocket League training.

WUWO Media is also working on the EOB League, a grassroots esports schools league for secondary schools and 6th forms, which will start with four schools in South London taking part.

The initiative aligns well with the British Esports Association – the not-for-profit national body set up to support grassroots esports – which held a series of esports clubs for children in the summer at Maida Vale Library, promoting communication, teamwork and cognitive skills.

The British Esports Association will be working with WUWO Media/EOB to help shape and promote the academies and to give talks at events. In particular, the association’s projects executive Rob Allen – who has extensive League of Legends coaching experience – will be working closely with the workshops.

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment today reveal that DRAGON BALL FighterZ will now be available earlier than anticipated on Xbox One, PlayStation®4 and PC with a new release date –  26th January, 2018.

Fights are all about strategy. In DRAGON BALL FighterZ, they are becoming more and more strategical with the arrival of 2 new heavyweights Nappa and Captain Ginyu . Captain Ginyu is a powerful character having the ability to switch himself with the opponent’s fighter lasting until the end of the fight. Nappa is a heavy type character using the Saibamen to attack the enemy. Using the Saibamen correctly could help Nappa gain time to charge energy or prepare a combo.

Story Mode will surprise and delight fans with the LINK System allowing them to embody different characters, share their minds and even discuss with them while they live in the same body. That’s not all! Composed of 3 different parts, the story mode will allow players to experience 3 different perspectives each offering different details and secrets about the story. 

Players will first play the Super Warriors Arc from the perspective of the Saiyans, followed by the Super Villain Arc from the perspective of the enemies and finally the Android Arc from the perspective of the Androids. By taking part in different fighting combinations included in these 3 chapters, players will be able to level up their characters and get a full understanding of the amazing DRAGON BALL FighterZ scenario! 

The story mode map will also surprise players by allowing tactical moves as you will have different options for their next destination. This strategical choice will have an impact on fighting abilities in future fights!

Last but not least, more details about the online modes are also revealed! The online modes with interconnected match-making will be the perfect place to test players’ skills.  In the Circle Match mode, up to 8 players can enter into the room to fight against each other where up to 4 fights can happen simultaneously. The World Match mode will allow players to choose between casual and ranked matches.

Further to the prior announcements, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment can also reveal more about the digital versions of DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ:

    -The DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ – FighterZ Edition includes the game along with the FighterZ Pass which adds 8 new characters to the roster.
    -The DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ – Ultimate Edition contains the game and the FighterZ Pass and additional content such as the commentator Voice Pack and the long-awaited Anime Music pack. The Anime Music Pack has been requested by fans for years and will include 11 songs from the anime. Players will be able to fight to the sound of “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA”, “WE GOTTA POWER”, and the most famous endings and background music!

The FighterZ Pass included into the DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ – FighterZ Edition and the DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ – Ultimate Edition is composed of 8 additional mighty characters with their respective stamp, set of alternative colors and even Lobby Avatars.

Train2Game News One Special Day 2017 results


SpecialEffect announced today that the games industry partners involved in their One Special Day fundraising event have so far raised a total of over £300,000 for the charity.

Revenue from game sales and in-game purchases in the UK – and in some cases worldwide – has helped smash the charity’s £100k target for the event. Over £250k of the total was raised by the mobile games industry partners and their communities.

Many companies also contributed through game-themed events, gaming auction items and livestreams before or during the fundraiser on 29 September.

All the money raised will go towards SpecialEffect’s work in creating ways for people with physical disabilities to experience the fun and inclusion of video games.

“This total is way beyond all expectation. We cannot thank all our games industry partners enough for coming together to support people with disabilities,” said Dr Mick Donegan, founder and CEO of SpecialEffect. “It’s an astonishing, game-changing total for us. It funds not only our lifelong one-to-one work with people who need our help, but also our collaboration with developers in making games more accessible to severely disabled gamers worldwide.”

“We’ve had an amazing time working with our partners during this event. The games industry and their communities have our heartfelt thanks for the tremendous generosity they have shown.”

Atari®, one of the world’s most recognized publishers and producers of interactive entertainment, today released new information about Ataribox, a product that brings gaming and more to the living room. 

The launch also signals a return by Atari to creating its own hardware in a broad eco-system of accessories and content.  Since being announced three months ago, the Ataribox has received more than 90,000 registrations on Ataribox.com. 
Ataribox has a unique modern design, influenced by iconic Atari products such as the Atari 2600. Technology wise, it is powered by an AMD customized processor with Radeon Graphics technology. Ataribox will offer games and more: bringing a full PC experience to the TV, it will also include streaming, applications, social, browsing, and music.  

Ataribox will run a Linux OS, with a user interface customized for the TV. Ataribox will launch with a large back-catalog of Atari classic games, and current titles from a range of studios.  Additional details on content and partnerships will be released at a later date. Given the open nature of the OS, players will also be able to access and play compatible games from other content platforms.

“With Ataribox, we wanted to create an open system, a killer product where people can game, stream and browse with as much freedom as possible. Atari games and content will be available as well as games and content from other providers,” said Fred Chesnais, Atari Chief Executive Officer. “We also wanted to launch Ataribox with our community, and reward our fans with exclusive early access, special editions, and include them as active participants in the product rollout.”

Ataribox will first be made available via the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform this fall, with targeted global launch in Spring 2018. The expected price range will be $249-$299 USD depending on specific editions and memory configurations. 

“People are used to the flexibility of a PC, but most connected TV devices have closed systems and content stores. Ataribox is an open system, and while our user interface will be easy to use, people will also be free to access and customize the underlying OS,” said Feargal Mac, Ataribox General Manager. “We’ve chosen to launch Ataribox with Indiegogo given their focus on delivering technology products, and their strong international presence in over 200 countries, allowing us to reach and involve as many Atari fans around the world as possible.”

Train2Game News IMGA 2017 Global Gaming Awards


The IMGA has today opened their call for entries in the 2017 edition of their global gaming awards. 

Now in its 14th year, the IMGA invites all game makers – indie developers, studios, publishers, students and researchers – from all countries to enter their game. Participants have until December 31, 2017 to submit their entries. The competition is free, and entrants may submit multiple games for consideration. 

After an online judging selection to determine the shortlisted nominees, the 14th IMGA Global finalists will be announced in February. The winners will be revealed during the award show in San Francisco on March 20, 2018, which will be taking place at the same time as GDC (Game Developers Conference) and Game Connection. Last year’s Grand Prix winner was the worldwide hit Pokémon GO (Niantic). Previous awarded games include Her Story (Sam Barlow), Monument Valley (Ustwo), Badland (Frogmind) and many others.

“For the 14th year running, the IMGA will highlight the top achievements in the gaming world. As usual with its two-round unique judging session, the competition will give big studios and indie developers an equal chance of winning the Grand Prix. We can’t wait to discover the best games of the year!” says Maarten Noyons, IMGA’s CEO and founder. “Moreover the talent and creativity of a woman or a man will be honoured by the Game Artist of 2017 Award, a new category that was launched last year.”

Developers, studios and publishers from all continents are invited to enter their mobile games from September 15 until December 31. The IMGA Global competition is also open to AR and VR games. Eligible games must be published in 2017 or have yet to be published, and must be downloadable in a playable version. Entrants across the globe can submit their games for free on the official IMGA website.

Gamers’ charity SpecialEffect and social video platform Twitch are putting the finishing touches on a truly special eight-hour livestream as part of One Special Day.

One Special Day is a fundraising day organised by SpecialEffect to benefit gamers with disabilities. Set for broadcast from Twitch’s London headquarters and streamed live on Twitch (twitch.tv/specialeffectteam) from 2-10pm on Friday 29 September, the event features popular Twitch creators, games, and new technology tailored for disabled gamers.

Amongst the growing list of Twitch Partners already confirmed are Cyborgangel, xLindsayJane, Meganyyy, LeahLovesChief, KellyJean, Fremily, AOAATube, B0aty, Jay1fifaking, and PhantomSFX. They will be playing a wide range of popular titles, including Overwatch, Destiny 2, PUBG, Runescape, and new release FIFA 18, as part of the charity’s One Special Day campaign. 

In addition, the stream will feature exclusive content from The Yogscast (including SpecialEffect Vice President Mark Turpin) and Hat Films, who have created a series of ‘stretch goal’ videos to encourage donations. 

Other activities planned for the broadcast include live demonstrations of some of the technology used by SpecialEffect in their work with severely disabled gamers. The featured Partners will have opportunity to play their favourite games using adapted controllers, to give them and their viewers a better appreciation of how the charity makes gaming more accessible for hundreds of people with disabilities across the country. 

This will include an ‘eye-gaze’ lap-time competition running on Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, where guests will compete to set the fastest time using only their eyes to control the car on screen! The stream will also include a host of highly desirable giveaways, including a full-size replica of the Tex Mechanica foundry’s “The Last Word” hand cannon, a concept 3D model created for the Destiny game by the talented Eric Newgard at Impact Props (courtesy of the Bungie Foundation).

Train2Game News Big Indie Awards 2017


Steel Media, the publisher of leading mobile gaming site Pocket Gamer, b2b portal PocketGamer.Biz and the popular PG Connects events series, has announced the launch of the brand new Big Indie Awards 2017 in association with indieSky.

Launched back in 2013, the Big Indie Pitch has rapidly grown into the definitive indie developer pitching competition and this year Steel Media has hosted 19 Big Indie Pitch events around the world for mobile, PC and VR developers.

Now the company is bringing that up to a round 20, with the first ever Big Indie Awards grand finale on November 21st 2017 in Shenzen, China. The awards are a chance for all independent mobile developers and small studios – including those who have pitched at a previous event and those who haven’t had the chance – to put their game forward for a chance of global recognition. With a prize fund worth over $25,000 and a paid trip to the awards ceremony itself, this is one competition that no indie dev can afford to miss out on.

All indie developers that have a mobile game project either in the works or released this year are welcome.

How does it work?

Developers are invited to submit their game by October 6 2017, at http://www.bigindieawards.com

After creating a longlist, a panel of expert judges including journalists, influencers and developers will rate each game to create a shortlist that will be announced to the world. The top three teams will then get the chance to spend a couple of days meeting Chinese companies and exploring the beautiful coastal city of Shenzhen, with all flights and accommodation paid. The competition builds to a climax with teams presenting their games on stage at a live awards ceremony in Shenzhen on November 21, when the final winners will be revealed!

Who can enter?

Any mobile indie developer who has a game released in 2017 or has one in production that’s scheduled to launch in the next six months can enter the competition.

All previously shortlisted Big Indie Pitch entrants since September 2016 will be fast-tracked onto the longlist.

What can you win?

There’s an array of prizes worth over $25,000 up for grabs, including $15,000 of marketing promotional spend on Steel Media’s many websites; tickets and expo tables at a Pocket Gamer Connects event worth $5,000; and $5,000 cash. Oh, and of course, paid trips to China including flight, accommodation and visa for at least the top three teams. Naturally, there’ll also be a fair amount of media coverage, an award trophy, and global adoration.
