Former Train2Game students now professional developers launch official Games Workshop app just in time for Christmas

Independent Video Games and Apps developer, Derp Studios, today release its tactical objectives app created with Games Workshop to accompany the Warhammer 40,000 board game. The team which includes Train2Game students has been working with Games Workshop to create the app.

The app has been designed to assist in playing the latest version of the popular table top game, offering a digital version of tactical objectives cards which previously were only available on limited edition print runs. This is one of the first ever official licensed hobby apps which supports the Warhammer 40,000 table-top game.

Chris Ledger, CEO and Lead Designer of Derp Studios; “The Warhammer 40,000:  Tactical Objectives App is one of the first hobby Apps to directly support the Warhammer 40,000 table-top board game.  The aim of the App is to enable players who don’t have a physical copy of either the regular or faction based Tactical Objectives cards to be able to own their factions deck, since the physical copies are on limited print runs.”

“Players of Warhammer 40,000 (the tabletop wargame) will benefit from the app a lot with this being the digital version. We’ve added a couple of decks.  We’ll be constantly adding decks to the app and we do have a couple of features we want to add later on down the line too.” 

“Things are going well with the folks at Games Workshop.  Everyone’s pretty busy and they have a lot of cool stuff going on, especially on the video game licensing side. Games Workshop are really good work alongside with.  They’ve been really supportive and have provided a lot of assets for us to use.  So far it’s been nothing but positive and a really enjoyable experience!”

“The development process has been very challenging and had its ups and downs but we got there in the end.  For Derp Studios this app alone is a big milestone in the company!  I’m not sure what the future holds for more hobby apps within the Warhammer 40,000 IP, however if I’m unable to produce another hobby app then I’d happily make a small licensed video game for them.”

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is now available on the latest iOS devices, and coming soon for Android and Amazon devices.

In Liberty City Stories, former trusted wise guy for the Leone crime family, Toni Cipriani returns home after spending time in hiding for killing a made man. Now, the streets of Liberty City are in turmoil, as warring families vie for control and the town begins to self-destruct under waves of political corruption, organized crime, drug trafficking and union strikes. Deranged hit men, morally depraved tycoons, cynical politicians and even his own mother stand in the way as Toni tries to bring the city under Leone family control.

Originally designed with mobile gameplay in mind, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories returns with enhancements including real time lighting and shadows, upgraded textures and art, greater draw distance, performance enhancements for touch-based gaming including updated analog steering and rebalanced targeting, cross-platform cloud saves via Social Club, support for Apple’s 3D touch and more.

In addition to cross-platform cloud saves, players who download Liberty City Stories and then sign in to Social Club within the app will unlock the bonus I HEART LC t-shirt with the same account used in Grand Theft Auto Online for PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC. Recreated ZX Spectrum – App Now Available for Android Phones & Tablets. Roadmap Announced.

To coincide with today’s release of the Android app Elite, the 1980s publisher behind the recreated device, has released information about how it’s expected to be used along with a roadmap outlining how the Recreated ZX Spectrum will be enhanced through further apps and firmware updates.

A survey of more than 275 users revealed that only 44% expected using the recreated device solely or primarily for playing ZX Spectrum games, whilst 49% placed equal or greater importance on its use as a keyboard for use with phones, tablets, Macs, PCs and connected TVs.

Further apps are currently in development for the recreated device, one for the soon to be released 4th generation Apple TV, the other for Android TV. Both of the forthcoming apps will include Chuckie Egg, Sinclair BASIC and a huge game bundle. When available, the apps will enable games and applications to be played on connected TVs using the Recreated ZX Spectrum – without the need for an intermediate device such as a phone or a tablet.

Through firmware updates additional keyboard functionality will be added in response user feedback. Several additional features have already been identified, including a simpler method of accessing CRTL functions. Updating the recreated device’s firmware couldn’t be simpler:

– connect the recreated device’s 5V DC port to a Mac / PC
– go to the published web address
– follow the on-screen instructions. It’ll only take moments.

OnePlay brings downloadable video games to public libraries

Several online services have in the past been touted the Netflix of gaming, but one player seems to finally deliver on the claim: OnePlay.

OnePlay is set to become one of the biggest forces in digital gaming offering users the chance to play more than a 1.000 titles for PC and Android devices for a small monthly fee or for free at your local library.

A new online store specifically for mobile VR titles has been announced at the Tokyo Game Show.

Nvia Group, the technological group, will present throughout this whole week its bet on the thriving virtual reality market for mobile phones: a virtual reality headset for mobile phones and its most exclusive feature: an app store, developed exclusively by the company with a series of games developed externally and in-house for mobile phones or smartphones which use Android technology.

Store MVR (www.storemvr.com ) will introduce more content and games during the upcoming months, from joint developers who want to take advantage of this distribution channel as well as in-house games developed by the studio’s development group which are being tested at the moment.

The store also introduces a section for developers to upload their games and other virtual reality contents on their own to be distributed in more than one hundred countries thanks to the localization of the store in 14 languages.

Developed by Hipster Whale (Crossy Road) and BANDAI NAMCO Studios Vancouver, this free-to-play game will be available for smartphones and tablets in summer 2015.

PAC-MAN 256 allows players to enjoy a brand new genre of PAC-MAN games; the iconic character created by NAMCO in 1980 will star in an endless maze chased by the infamous “256 Glitch”!
