Train2Game News Presale for breakthrough physical character animation tool

DeepMotion, a pioneer in the field of Motion Intelligence, announced today that DeepMotion Neuron, the first tool for completely procedural, physical character animation, has launched for presale.

The breakthrough cloud application trains digital characters to develop physical intelligence using advanced AI, physics, and deep learning. With guidance and practice, digital characters can now achieve adaptive motor control just as humans do, allowing animators and developers to create more lifelike and responsive animations than those possible using traditional methods.

DeepMotion Neuron is a Behavior-as-a-Service platform for developers to upload and train their own 3D characters—choosing from hundreds of interactive motions available via an online library. Neuron will enable content creators to tell more immersive stories by adding responsive actors to games and experiences, and the service will free up time for artists to focus on expressive details by handling large portions of technical animation automatically.

“DeepMotion Neuron is designed to help developers close the gap between reality and digital representation by making high-fidelity, interactive simulation accessible and easy to use,” said Kevin He, CEO of DeepMotion. “By granting characters true motion intelligence we believe we can greatly reduce the ‘uncanny valley’ that has haunted those of us in the entertainment industry for over 50 years.”

The core technology of DeepMotion Neuron is built upon state-of-the-art techniques revealed in a research paper presented at SIGGRAPH 2018 by scientists from DeepMotion and Carnegie Mellon University. The paper applies reinforcement learning to the growing domain of sports simulation, specifically basketball, where real-world human motor intelligence is at its peak. After training and optimization, the researchers’ characters were able to perform interactive ball handling skills in real-time simulation. The same technology used to teach digital actors how to dribble can be applied to any physical movement using Neuron.

In the DeepMotion Neuron prelaunch, developers can register for early access and discounts. Those that back the campaign will get first access to the Neuron cloud service, personalized onboarding, in addition to receiving an exclusive demo package and free training time. Developers and animators can learn more and participate in the campaign at deepmotion.com/neuron_prelaunch.

DeepMotion Neuron’s cloud platform is slated to for release in Q4 of 2018.

Train2Game News Bunch of Big Board Games Digital Adaptations

Asmodee Digital, the leader in digital board game entertainment, announced at their Gen Con press conference that Gloomhaven, the award-winning board game celebrated for its tactical combat and branching narratives, is in development and scheduled to launch on Steam Early Access in Q1 2019.

Alongside Gloomhaven, Asmodee Digital provided updates on some of the most anticipated games in their digital catalogue including Five Tribes, Bang!, Onitama, Munchkin, The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game, and Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace, and also console games with the famous Ticket to Ride on Playlink for PS4 and Carcassonne on Nintendo Switch.

Developed by Flaming Fowl Studios, Gloomhaven is a dungeon-crawling RPG featuring tactical turn-based combat, and for the first time, an infinitely replayable roguelike mode that will be available during Early Access launch and beyond. Set in a medieval fantasy world, players will struggle to survive through procedurally generated dungeons filled with deadly enemies, equipment to find, and powerful abilities to unlock, with much more in the works for the full launch.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have the privilege of bringing Gloomhaven to Steam. It’s one of the highest regarded games from the tabletop community and is a perfect addition to our digital catalogue,” said Pierre Ortolan, CEO of Asmodee Digital. “Flaming Fowl Studios is a young studio with talent whose vast experience includes the Fables series. When paired with our proven track record of creating engaging digital board games, we are confident that Gloomhaven’s digital edition will surpass even the most seasoned players expectations.”

Designed by Isaac Childres, the Gloomhaven board game launched in 2017, raising $4.4 million between two successful Kickstarter campaigns. Since launch, Gloomhaven has received extremely positive reviews from critics and has been rated the “No. 1 Board Game Of All Time” by BoardGameGeek where it also won six Golden Geek Awards.

“Gloomhaven is, in a lot of ways, inspired by video games so it made sense that there would one day be a digital adaptation of it. Like the physical product, the digital version will be a large project that is more like its own unique game rather than a digital port of a board game,” said Isaac Childres, Gloomhaven’s designer and co-founder of Cephalofair Games. “I chose to work with Asmodee Digital because they have the most resources and experience to make sure that it got done right. In their hands, Gloomhaven’s digital edition could become a fully formed digital implementation of the massive critically successful board game. Working with them has been great and every creative decision runs through me to ensure my vision of the world comes to life in the best way possible.”

“We saw a lot of excitement for original games after we announced Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace in April. Gloomhaven continues our commitment of expanding our catalog with more original video game experiences based on board game IPs and not just direct 1:1 adaptations of existing board games,” said Philippe Dao, Chief Marketing Officer of Asmodee Digital. “Asmodee Digital is still dedicated to bringing faithful recreations to new platforms as well, with games like Carcassonne coming to Switch and classic titles like Five Tribes and Bang coming to mobile devices later this year.”

Train2Game News Nokia classic Snake on Facebook

HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, brings the classic snake game up to date with augmented reality. Snake Mask and Snake Real World filters bring the iconic game to a new generation of fans.

The addictive premise of the game remains the same, but with a fun AR twist, fans can now be the apple-munching Snakes. Snake Mask utilises new Facebook AR technology to bring Snake to the widest audience possible.

Snake at the zoo? Snake at the beach? Snake… on a plane? Now it’s all possible when Snake is on Facebook camera. Plus, with Facebook Live integration, it’s straightforward to broadcast gameplay live to the Facebook news feed, allowing friends to join the action.

The all-new Snake Mask uses the front-facing camera of Nokia smartphones running Android™ to allow players to turn themselves into the iconic Snake character, reacting to the motion of the player’s face. Snake Real World activates the rear-facing camera.

To celebrate the release of the updated Nokia classic, comedian and YouTuber Matt Keck, the man behind the accidentally hilarious viral sensation, “I’m a Snake” which received 23 million hits on YouTube, tested out Snake on Facebook camera. Matt has recreated his own viral hit, this time using the Snake Mask filter to show off the brilliant new features.

Pekka Rantala, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of HMD Global said: “The world famous game snaked its way back into people’s hearts at MWC in 2017 when we announced Snake for Facebook Messenger.

It was designed for a new social generation; fans could invite friends to play and share scores making it even more playable than first time round. This was the first time in Snake’s history that it went onto a universal channel, rather than a device preload, and it gained 121 million players around the world.

Now we launch an even more immersive experience to fans by allowing them to be the snake itself and eat the apples with filters available on Facebook camera – here at HMD Global we are bringing the much-loved gaming icon to a new AR era.”

The camera effect can be accessed via the Facebook camera and is universally available, not just to Nokia smartphones. It is available on Android and iOS.

HMD Global is encouraging players to share the most unusual places they play the game using the hashtag #imasnake2.

How to play

1. Open the Facebook app
2. Click the camera Icon top left to open Facebook Camera
